The Formulation Scientist, Solid Dose is responsible for all aspects of the technical product and process development for solid dosage forms (primarily tablets, capsules, softgels and powders). This role effectively utilizes standard best practices and procedures in product and process development. Supports technology advancements to drive innovation and point of difference for the brands. $125,100.00 - $187,600.00
This represents the minimum and maximum base salary range for this role, plus annual incentive. Various elements are used to determine a candidate's starting salary such as job experience, specific skills, and comparison to internal incumbents currently in the role. Key Responsibilities
Critical contributions this role is counted on the deliver include:
- Develops formulations and processes to support the development of new and novel products and/or optimization of existing products. Leads benchtop and pilot development and supports manufacturing trials for new or reformulated products. Effectively troubleshoots and solves complex formulation & technical challenges with speed and robustness.
- Investigates new technologies relating to composition, usage, and process that will result in viable patents and/or competitive advantages. Develops prototypes to demonstrate application of new technologies.
- Independently designs and conducts robust experiments to support new product development. Presents relevant findings to R&D Management and appropriate technical groups.
- Maintains accurate records of all development projects. Prepares and initiates technical documents such as raw material and bulk specifications, SOP's, technology transfer documents and any other relevant documents for the development and commercialization of the products.
- Prepares stability, consumer and clinical samples. Prepares, reviews and approves stability protocols. Works effectively with R&D Analytical to monitor, evaluate, summarize and interpret results of stability studies.
- Effectively communicates and leads in a cross-functional team environment, serving as a core member or scientific SME in solving complex formulation/process issues.

Critical Success Factor
You'll be most successful in this role if you have:
- Demonstrated success in formulating, scaling up and commercializing complex Solid Dose formulations, including hands-on lab experience. Ability to adapt to change and to find creative solutions to keep projects on track.
- Comprehensive understanding of Solid Dose formulation, equipment and manufacturing operations, including tableting, 2 pc encapsulation, softgel and powders
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve conflict. Ability to coach and mentor others.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and lead in a cross-functional team environment especially with Innovation, Marketing, Quality and Operations stakeholders
- Understanding of product lifecycle management and associated software tools.
Capabilities & Skills Required
In order to take on these challenges, you'll need to have:
- Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of relevant experience in product development in the Nutraceutical or Pharmaceutical industry, or Masters degree plus 3 - 8 years experience of relevant experience in product development in the Nutraceutical or Pharmaceutical industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in product/process development, processing laboratory techniques, regulatory requirements and a firm foundation in basic sciences.
- Proficiency in Office applications and familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management. Experience with Siemens preferred.
