Shipping & Receiving Material Handler Job Description:
- Loads, unloads trucks and moves material around the plant or empties production scrap into outside hoppers.
- Reads work orders or follows oral instructions, counts, weighs, or measures incoming or outgoing against bill of lading, invoices, orders or other records.
- Examines incoming shipments for damage or shortage and communicates with shipper to rectify.
- Operates material handling equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks or dollies to move stock or reorganize storage.
- Utilizes computerized or automated systems to accomplish tasks.
- Transfers to other departments during peak times
- Assembles packaging, crates, cardboard boxes etc.
- Helps as needed on other tasks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experiences:
- Valid/current state issued driver license.
- Minimum one year material handling experience with forklifts, overhead cranes/hoists in a manufacturing environment;
- Knowledge of automated or computerized systems such as MRP systems, Microsoft Word, etc.
- Knowledge of safety practices
- Capable of lifting objects up to 30lbs.
- Able to operate forklifts or other material handling equipment in tight and congested areas
- Skilled in both verbal and written communication.
Working Conditions:
- The employee is exposed to machine operation noise in a manufacturing setting.
- Exposed to other moving equipment, nuisance dust, cutting and drawing oils.
- The job requires standing, walking, pulling/pushing objects and bending to the floor.
