This is a grant funded time-limited (GFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as the result of a grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to a GFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to a GFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non-merit) employee. A GFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.
By joining the Division of Forestry/Madisonville Branch as a Forester II in Hopkins County, you will have the opportunity to significantly contribute to ensuring the programmatic integrity of numerous forestry-related programs, and the consistent delivery of services to the public. During the performance of your assigned duties, you will interact on a daily/weekly basis with not only the public, but with branch personnel, branch management, and the division's program staff.
Holders of the Forester II position will complete tasks such as:
- Collects landowner data in the field for technical forest inventories, and conducts landowner surveys and tornado damaged forest inventories that follow USDA Forest Service data collection procedures.
- Processes and analyzes landowner data collected by forest inventories by following forest stewardship program procedures. Writes recommendations for forest stewardship plans and practice plans for landowners who received tornado damage to their forestlands.
- Initiates and assists landowners with the implementation of on-the-ground forestry practices to be completed by the KDF Tornado Relief Strike Team.
- Assists with marking of forest stand improvement, timber harvesting practices, and reforestation plantings.
- Supervises and assists in fire suppression and prevention, prescribed fire, and all-risk emergency response. Assists in training all of the Forest Ranger Technicians on the KDF Tornado Relief Strike Team.

Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possess and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Work also involves frequent contact with citizens and organizations in the promotion of forestry programs. Duties are typically performed within the Commonwealth of Kentucky; however, some functions may occur in other states.
