The Forensic Services Division is responsible for six departments including Forensic Community Based Services (FCBS), Jail Based Evaluation and Restoration (JBR), Outpatient Restoration (OPR), the Forensic Support Team (FST), the Court Services Department and the Operations Department.
Our teams work within various settings including community agencies, jails, courts, and hospitals. The locations can include locked units and secure facilities and our clients may at times be unpredictable due to their mental health needs. Our team is required to make critical decisions in dynamic and fast-paced environments to ensure a high level of accountability for patient care. Our staff are required to maintain updated skills, knowledge, abilities, and competencies necessary to the position through continuing education, clinical supervision, literature review, and discipline and team development. This position may be required to travel throughout Colorado to meet the needs of the department.
This position exists to perform and ensure the quality and timely completion of court-ordered evaluations and restoration reports required by Colorado courts. This position is authorized to represent the Department in communication to Judges and Courts directly. This position will remain up to date on processes, legislation, and current best practices and is critical to the agency's mission and fundamental business operations in line with licensure requirements.
Primary Job Duties:
Quality Assurance Auditor/Analysis:
- Analyze large volumes of information to conduct objective, nonpartisan evaluations of programs, performance, stewardship, and operations.
- Interact with multiple levels of Forensic Services staff to evaluate whether agencies and programs have effective operations, comply with laws and regulations, and accomplish their purposes and goals.
- Examine and analyze internal controls, policies, procedures, and systems to identify ways in which Forensic Services can provide quality services.
- A complement of this work is delegated by management to present analysis, findings, and recommendations to Forensic Services staff.
- This position evaluates the relevance and importance of theories, concepts, and principles to tailor them to develop a different approach or plan to fit specific circumstances.
- Develops and leads the department's process improvement efforts.
- Collaborates with leadership to action the roadmap, vision, and plans for implementation of priority projects or programs.
- Partners with all divisions in Forensic Services to identify, plan, and execute process improvement initiatives.
- Determines the best communication and documentation styles to work with all levels of staff.
- Assess performance and determine the evaluation of assigned staff.
- Resolve barriers to meeting settlement deadlines by direct reports through proactive and intuitive problem-solving.
- Understand when consultation with a supervisor is necessary to avoid report submission delays or to keep supervisory issues manageable at the lowest level.
- Provide assistance, support, and/or consultation on complex evaluation cases.
- Assess staff performance and ability to participate in incentive programs and work independently.
- Provide guidance and training to staff.
- Evaluates case audits for quality and recommend training needs to managers to support increased efficiency and improve practices.
- Reviews numerous cases for quality, accuracy, and consistency and is uniquely situated to recognize training needs to improve the quality of services and compliance with policies, best practices, and Consent Decree requirements.
- Monitors and evaluates performance; identifies training and development needs, provides feedback and coaching.
Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:
Current, valid licensure as a Psychologist from the Colorado State Board of Psychologist Examiners
&
Three (3) years of experience as a licensed psychologist or permitted psychologist candidate, two of which must have been at the level of a fully operating psychologist

Special Qualifications:
- Current Licensed Psychologist with the State of Colorado
- Experience supervising at least two other employees and can demonstrate management concepts.
- Has an understanding of program evaluation and QUALITY ASSURANCE and can demonstrate this skill set.
- Has experience in conducting Forensic Evaluations.
- Three years experience working independently as a forensic evaluator. Experience with competency and restoration of competency evaluations. **COVID-19 and other vaccines as required by the State of CO**
- Full Background check: CBI name check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), 1075 check (access to Federal Tax information), drug screen (commercial Driver's license)
- Valid US Driver's License
- May require extensive travel between offices, CMHHIP, CMHHI-FL, and
various detention facilities. Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must (1) disclose that information on the application (2) provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position, (3) provide the employee number from the applicant's prior State employment. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination, and failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
