POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY
Provides technical assistance in diagnosing disease, trauma and in determining cause and manner of death. Processes cases before, during and after autopsy by using a variety of techniques to preserve medicolegal evidence, establish positive identification and preserve chain of custody. Maintains the facility in a safe and sanitary condition. Performs a variety of forensic and clerical work to include: collecting, photographing, documenting, preserving and maintaining evidence and specimens.Provides high level direct specialized support to the Forensic Pathologists and Forensic and Investigative Divisions. Manages the forensic and medicolegal administrative transcription and paraprofessional activities of the division. Serves as a resource of department related information, assists office administrator in developing and implementing policy and procedure and assures effective office coordination.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
Forensic Administration and Transcription Specialist I performs direct key support and Transcription duties and encompasses a broad range of knowledge in the forensic and medical fields.
Essential Functions
+ Serves as a liaison for the forensic pathologists to government offices and legal agencies;
+ Transcribes forensic pathology reports accurately and in a timely manner, according to transcription guidelines, standards and style of formats of practice;
+ Transcribes letters, memos and other reports as dictated by forensic pathologists and staff of the forensic division;
+ Accurately assess information in the form of operative reports, medical history and physical reports, clinic notes, laboratory reports and radiology reports as they relate to dictated information;
+ Recognizes, interprets and evaluates inconsistencies, discrepancies and inaccuracies in medical dictation and appropriately clarifies and flags as needed;
+ Ensure compliance with Federal and State laws, including, but not limited to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPAA);
+ Ensure compliance with office policy and procedure;
+ Manages staff calendars and communicates with legal offices
