Duties
- Cooks foods for regular and modified diets, both hot and cold.
- Ensure that needed material and instructions are provided to complete task.
- Explain work requirements and instructs subordinates of any new procedures.
- Collect and return trays to the food cart, and insure proper disposal of trays.
- Assure that safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
- Stock bulk nourishments in the pantry, storing them properly
- Delivers individual nourishments to patients.
Conditions of Employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds may be required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
- Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions

- Physical Efforts: Work involves frequent lifting or moving objects weighing up to 30 pounds and occasional lifting up to 44 pounds, and constant standing and walking, mainly on concrete floors. Must be able to stand or walk continuously on concrete or tile floors. Must have a 30 inch reach at height of 54 inches. Must be able to lift items in excess of 40 pounds.
- Working Conditions: Work is performed predominantly in a noisy kitchen. Subject is exposed to the cold of refrigerators and heat of ovens, and danger of falling on wet floors. Personnel deliver food carts in patient tray areas. May work in dining room areas and provides inpatient meal service using a room service operation. Incumbent is subject to injuries from equipment used; exposed to dirt, grease and water in cleaning tasks; exposed to extremes in temperature when removing supplies from walk-in refrigerators. Wears safety shoes and other protective items as required.
