As an Equipment Service Technician, get ready to drive into the heart of maintenance and repairs on equipment that keeps Snohomish County moving! From greasing and lubricating to changing oil, performing thorough inspections, road tests and even tire replacement, you'll be on the fast track to becoming an indispensable part of our team.
- Greases, lubricates and maintains a variety of equipment; checks all fluid levels and adds fluids as necessary; changes oil and oil filters as required; inspects and replaces air filters, batteries, battery cables, fan belts, fuel filters, hoses, windshield wipers, and other minor parts as necessary.
- Checks engine specifications and exhaust emissions using electronic test equipment and reports any problems found; may repair or replace exhaust system components as required.
- Inspects and adjusts brakes and clutches as required; may rebuild and/or repair brake systems and components as required.
- Inspects and road tests vehicles serviced and reports any defects and problems found.
- Mounts, dismounts, changes and repairs tires as necessary; balances wheel and tire assemblies as required.
- Maintains vehicle and tire service records as required.
- Tows disabled vehicles to the equipment shop as necessary.
- May perform minor tune-up work such as changing spark plugs, adjusting carburetors, and setting engine timing.
- Performs related duties a required.
Employees may be required to furnish their own hand tools.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- the materials, methods, equipment and supplies used in the maintenance and repair of equipment.
- maintain, service and perform minor repairs on a variety of equipment;
- read, understand and use a variety of service and parts manuals for a variety of equipment;
- inspect vehicles and detect faulty equipment, safety defects and other problems;
- use a variety of hand and power tools, grease guns, tire mounting machines and other equipment used in the servicing of equipment;
- operate a variety of equipment safely and courteously under a variety of traffic and weather conditions;
- mount, dismount, change and repair all types of tires;
- read, understand and comply with safety rules and regulations;
- follow oral and written instructions;
- deal courteously and tactfully with other county employees and with the general public;
- maintain required records.
