WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Develop a plan for purchases and maintains vehicles for deliveries and company use.
- Develop a plan for leasing and buying vehicle approvals.
- Develops schedules and procedures for and ensures adherence to routine maintenance and non-routine repair of all vehicles in the company’s fleet.
- Collaborates with supervisors and staff to manage and reduce expenses. Find ways to maximize profits.
- Develops long range plans to eliminate and purchase equipment and vehicles for the fleet.
- Establishes a schedule for recommended replacement of fleet vehicles.
- Drafts and presents reports on department operations and expenses.
- Prepares and manages departmental budget.
- Deals with authorized dealers, contractors, vendors to secure equipment and vehicles.
- Estimates costs and sells off obsolete or surplus vehicles and equipment to auction company or public sales.
- Submits purchase orders.
- Maintains warranties, licenses and registrations for entire fleet.
- Arranges for repair work according to warranty guidelines.
- Develops and implements a preventative maintenance program for entire fleet.
- Reviews time and motion records of fleet employees to determine downtime for maintenance and repairs of vehicles.
- Investigates complaints received on vehicle condition and equipment failure.
- Investigates garage and work areas for adherence to safety codes and regulations.
- Prepares written reports.
- Develop strategies for greater fuel efficiency.
- Maintains detailed records of vehicle servicing and inspections.
- Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of fleet management and operations.
- Excellent managerial and supervisory skills.
- Ability to prepare and adhere to a budget and to monitor and reduce expenses.
- Proven work experience as a Fleet Manager or similar role.
- Analytical mindset and strong problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail to ensure records are kept as needed.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to work with various departments.
- Relevant training and/or certifications as a Fleet Manager.
- Thorough knowledge of the maintenance, operation, and repair of motor equipment of all types (i.e. automobiles, construction equipment, diesel engines, motors, pumps).
- Good knowledge of repair costs.
- Ability to plan and delegate work to others.
- Ability to act responsibly in an emergency situation.
- Ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software.
- Ability to be resourceful, reliable, and exercise good technical judgement.
- Demonstrates initiative.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- A bachelor’s degree in logistics or supply chain is preferred,
- 7 year’s experience of automotive repair and maintenance work including or supplemented by one (1) year of supervisory experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to access and navigate fleet parking lot and maintenance facilities.
