Job description

The career opportunity:
The Field Service Supervisor oversees a team of 10 - 20 DART Bus Drivers in King County, a diverse staff serving diverse populations. The Field Service Supervisor leads the problem-solving, field training, troubleshooting, performance management, employee relations, and monitoring of drivers; may also be responsible for driver scheduling or recruiting/hiring.

What you will be doing:
  • Oversee safety and procedural compliance for all drivers and vehicles while in the provision of service. Provide in-the-field assistance as required and communicates to the Operations Manager driver concerns about operational difficulties encountered.
  • Work directly with both Hopelink and King County Metro staff.
  • Variable schedule to include some weekend days and split shifts.
  • Monitor service areas and routes connected to the Community Connections Service including the Trail Head Direct.
  • Train and orient drivers; communicate safety and procedural guidelines and policies. Spot check the completion of pre-trip inspections and monitor compliance to passenger boarding and de-boarding procedures. Monitor, evaluate and identify drivers for re-training as necessary.
  • Ensure that the hiring, training and performance review processes produced desired strategic results.
  • Participate as a contributing member of Hopelink’s Management team.
  • Problem-solves areas of concern for drivers and dispatchers throughout the service area.
  • Troubleshoot destinations, routes, scheduling, vehicle and/or driver issues as they arise.
  • Conduct accident/incident investigations in the field. Ensures all reports are completed accurately and completely and are distributed to all required recipients.
  • Responsible for fleet management maintenance schedules, assists with program data (manifests, reports, surveys for Metro, etc.) and fare collection reporting.
  • Monitor driver performance including resolving performance issues and completing performance evaluations in a timely manner following Hopelink personnel guidelines.
  • Work in collaboration with Operations Manager, Director, and Human Resources on employee disciplinary actions.
  • Operate any and all DART vehicles as needed to cover routes when drivers are absent.
  • Assist the Operations Manager in recruitment, screening, interviewing, and selection of Driver applicants.
  • Participate as a contributing member of the Division leadership team.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with government and private funders.
  • Maintain current, clear understanding of contracts and program requirements.

Your qualities
  • Minimum of seven years licensed driving experience.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and web-based software applications.
  • Prior supervisory experience with the ability to effectively manage diverse work styles and personalities.
  • Driven to provide a safety focused work environment.
  • Available to work all days and shifts as required by operation.
  • Must be a self-starter, independent thinker, be able to maintain a positive attitude, and have the ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks requiring consistent accuracy.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Prior experience providing transportation services to the public preferred.
  • Route Match experience a plus.
  • CPR/First Aid Certificate preferred.
  • Defensive Driving Certificate preferred.
  • This position is a Service Critical Employee with specific attendance requirements. Because of the critical nature of this role to Hopelink operations, it is important that you are able to:
    • Report to the worksite during your scheduled hours, regardless of weather conditions or other emergencies.
    • Manage your own transportation needs in adverse weather, including possible limitations to public transportation options.
    • Have a specific plan to address any other possible attendance barriers that arise during adverse weather and other emergencies, such as disrupted utilities or public services, road closures, school closures, etc.

**Due to Federal Regulations, this position is considered a Safety Sensitive Position, therefore employees are required to undergo a full criminal background check and pre-employment Federal DOT drug screening, and are subject to random screenings, which include THC among other restricted substances.

  • Regular work tasks involve moving items weighing up to 40 pounds, occasionally.
  • Physical movement is needed to assist riders who utilize mobility devices in and out of the vehicle, including tying down wheelchairs and assisting with wheelchair lift.
  • This job operates a vehicle for many hours at a time with long periods of sitting.
  • Duties are primarily performed in the field under varied weather conditions.
  • This job also operates in a professional office environment. Work tasks involve routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines; accessing office machinery, mail room, or filing cabinets, etc. may involve physical movement within the office space.
  • This job includes the ability to judge, inspect, and perceive details at a close range.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately noisy.

Licenses, certificates, and other requirements
:
  • Valid Washington State Commercial Drivers License (Class C or higher) with Passenger endorsement or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire date.
  • Current Driving Abstract with no serious traffic infractions in the past five years.
  • All Safety Sensitive positions are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • Reliable personal transportation.
  • Proof of personal automobile liability insurance.
  • Must pass criminal background check.
