Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide instruction in Kripala/Hatha Yoga I and II (FIT167 and FIT168). The Yoga I course involves an introduction to basic yoga philosophy, breathing exercises and simple posture and relaxation techniques. The student also learns about the major muscles and bones, as well as the circulatory and nervous system of the human body in relation to yoga.  The Yoga II course is designed for the student who has completed FIT167 and includes introduction of new postures and postures will be held for longer periods of time. Additional breathing techniques will be incorporated. Students will develop a deeper understanding of how the body functions, and how yoga affects these functions. Relaxation techniques will be further developed.  Classes will be held in the Quick Term semesters, in-person, from 9:30 am - 10:20 am Mondays and Wednesdays beginning in the Fall 2024 semester.


Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associate degree in Health Science, Health Education, Exercise Science, or closely related discipline.
  2. Certification as a trained Yoga instructor.
  3. Professional experience in health, fitness, and wellness promotion.
  4. Ability to create classroom environment that engages students and supports learning.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree.
  2. College-level teaching experience, preferably at the community college level.
  3. Skill in using evidence-based strategies to support student success including active and experiential teaching strategies.
  4. Skill in using technology to support learning.

COMPENSATION:  Step 1 DCE pay scale. Part-time, non-benefited,  MCCC Unit position.
