Job description

We are seeking a skilled Fishery Biologist to work in a consulting position with us at the Northeast Fisheries Science Center Sandy Hook Lab. The Fishery Biologist would be responsible for analyzing sequence data from non-model fish species in a population and conservation genomics context. In addition, the Fishery Biologist will assist with genome assembly and annotation, and transcriptomic (RNA-seq) analysis. We require approximately 300-400 hours of support.
Skills:
· Experience analyzing ddRAD data to explore conservation and population genetics questions in two or more fish populations
· Fluency inappropriate statistical approaches for estimating population size, generation time, mutation rate, Fst
· A publication record demonstrating expertise in this field
· Must be able to pass a security background check
· Experience with molecular laboratory work, including the optimization of species-specific genetic markers, collation of available genetic data, statistical analysis, and presentation of data to stakeholder groups.
· Experience with use of microsatellites, RADseq, RNAseq as well as physiology/ecotoxicology experiments in a population genetics context.
· Knowledge of fish phylogenetics.
· Experience with ecothe toxicology studies in wild fish, particularly where genetic, genomic, or transcriptomic data has been collected and analyzed.
· Knowledge and experience with the software necessary to perform network analysis, ontology and annotation, genome assembly, and differential expression analysis.
Other responsibilities
· Assist in the preparation of manuscripts, communicating findings in multiple formats (reports, ppt presentations, manuscripts)
· Report findings to internal and external funders
· Assist in grant writing for additional opportunities, contribute to experimental design for future studies
· Work closely with industry partners that supply sequence data
· Assists in communicating –omics findings to non-specialists and Client people
Deliverables
· Modeling, statistical analysis, annotation, and assemblies of DNA and RNA data
· Creation of publication quality figures from the data
· Weekly meetings with colleagues for updates
· Project timeline is 1 year with funding for approximately 300 – 400 hours of work total over the year. There exists a possibility for additional funding.
