Our business serves two distinct markets: 1) developing-world families living in energy poverty, and 2) outdoor enthusiasts seeking fuel-independent cooking and electricity.

BioLite believes in a bright and safe future for all, and that includes life at work. BioLite is proud to be an equal-opportunity workplace where we strive to enable everyone to show up as their full selves. An inclusive environment and culture makes our solutions better and our entire team smarter. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender, gender identity or expression, or veteran status.

THIS ROLE:

As a Firmware / Hardware Engineer at BioLite, you’ll create robust, cost-effective, creative hardware designs to bring new energy products to life and be used and relied upon by hundreds of thousands of off-grid customers around the world.

You Will:

You should have firmware experience, but we also recommend hands-on experience with hardware. Candidates with a broad base in electronics and consumer products are most likely to succeed in this role. PCBA design experience is a strong plus.

  • Develop firmware: Own firmware development for low-cost microcontroller architectures such as ATtiny and STM32. Implement control systems, user interfaces, safety logic, and various communication interfaces. Debug and test your own designs. Practice and promote coding best practices, style, version control, etc.
  • Hardware native: Review and inspect PCBAs in their native EDA software. Use the BioLite EE lab for basic rework and preparing test leads / adapters. Apply electrical engineering fundamentals (power, RLCs, switching). Use bench equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, power supply, digital load) for test and development.
  • Team player: Assume responsibility for program-level goals. Propose strategies and solutions to diverse problems. Share risks, progress updates, and final results with the team. Prioritize and manage your time effectively. Embody team mission and values.

You Have:

  • At least 5+ years' experience writing and validating firmware for consumer electronics, or similar experience.
  • At least 2+ years' experience designing electrical hardware, including component selection and schematic capture.
  • Basic soldering and prototyping skills enabling instrumentation and experimentation.
  • Proficiency with multiple microcontroller platforms.
  • Proficiency with FreeRTOS or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in C for embedded systems.
  • Proficiency with Python.
  • Knowledge of an ECAD platform such as Altium, Eagle, KiCad, etc.
  • Knowledge of advanced PCBA skills such as hot air rework and blue wiring.

Why Join BioLite?

  • You'll design products that have a genuine positive impact on the lives of our customers.
  • You'll work with and learn from a welcoming, fun, experienced interdisciplinary team.
  • You'll teach and share your skills with others.
  • You'll be encouraged to lead and test ideas while having the support of a tight-knit team.

To Apply:

Your application should include a PDF of your resume and cover letter explaining why you would be a good fit for this position.

Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they can perform every job description task. At BioLite we are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may come from a less traditional background. BioLite may consider an equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications. If you are interested in applying, we encourage you to do so and to think broadly about your background and skill set for the role.
