General Statement of Duties
Performs firefighting, emergency medical services, and fire prevention duties, including safely driving firefighting apparatus and medical units both during emergency responses to the scene of the emergency and during routine daily operations. These duties also include operating equipment at the fire or medical scene, extinguishing fires, and saving lives and property.
- Drives fire apparatus to scene of emergency, deploys hose, and operates pump and firefighting equipment until extinguishment of fire. Drives medical units to emergency incidents; performs emergency medical care and services to their EMT level; transports patients to enhanced medical care. Assists with any other work as might be indicated by the type of emergency or as directed.
- Assists in fire extinguishment depending on conditions and if so directed.
- Maintains apparatus in a constant state of readiness, makes daily inspections and performs necessary maintenance and repair. Maintains records and submits reports as may be required. Participates in fire drills and attends classes in fire and medical techniques.
- Performs housekeeping and maintenance duties at the station as assigned. Inspects hydrants, clearing weeds and brush; paints and marks hydrant locations.
- Removes people from danger, performs emergency life support functions as a qualified EMS provider.
- Assists in instruction of firefighter(s) in efficient and modern practices and principles of fire fighting and rescue work.
- Performs fire prevention inspections as assigned.
- Attends schools and classes to learn advanced principles and techniques in use and operation of fire service apparatus, fire techniques and medical emergency skills.
- Performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues that contain blood borne pathogens.

- Must possess ability to act promptly and use good judgment in emergencies and deal tactfully with the public.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED
- Must possess a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record
- Must have ICS200 and ICS700 certification
- Must possess DPSST Firefighter I certification
- Must possess an Apparatus Operator/Pumper certification
- Must possess an Oregon EMT, AEMT, EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic license
- 2 years Fire/EMS experience
- Must pass an annual physical agility test per NFPA standards
Preferred qualifications:
- DPSST Firefighter II certification
- DPSST Fire Instructor I certification
- Aerial Operator Certification
