The City of Lenexa, Kansas Fire Department is currently accepting applications for Firefighters. The City of Lenexa is a progressive, dynamic and growing community located in Johnson County, Kansas. The department is accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International and has been awarded the highest public protection classification rating by the Insurance Services Office. The firefighter position is a non-standard, rotating work, shift schedule (nine 24 hour shifts in a 27-day work period), requiring weekend and holiday work.

Minimum Qualifications:
- 18 years of age at time of employment offer
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
- Valid drivers license with insurable driving record throughout employment
- Firefighter I and II certificates and EMT certification
- Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations certification
- Successful completion of the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within 1 year of application
- Fire Service Entrance Exam (FSEE) minimum score of 70%

Hiring Process
The application and certifications must be submitted by February 16, 2024 at 5pm CST.
- Structured in-person panel interviews will be scheduled from February 19 - February 23, 2024. Consideration will be given for candidates who live more than 2 hours away.
- Candidates selected to move forward to the next step in the process will be contacted and scheduled for a fire department company activity February 26 or February 27, 2024.
- Fire Chief interviews will be completed as part of the company activity February 26 or February 27, 2024.
Offers of employment are conditioned upon successful completion of a pre-employment psychological evaluation, physical, drug screen and background check. Candidates with prior criminal convictions are encouraged to submit applications for positions where they meet the minimum and/or desired qualifications and will not automatically be excluded from the recruitment process.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting Salary for Firefighters is $53,000/year, Firefighter Paramedic is $58,300/year. The City of Lenexa offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
