JOB SUMMARY: The primary responsible is to stand watch at an assigned location to identify and prevent any hazardous situations.
SUPERVISES: N/A
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Inspects area prior to any hot work being performed to ensure all flammable and combustible material have been removed.
- Delivers all safety equipment to include appropriate fire extinguisher to site and is on hand for the work being completed and for area designated.
- Must be stationed in the work site such that they can respond quickly to prevent fires.
- Conducts frequent inspections of areas where hot work is being performed to ascertain if area is still safe for employees performing work in the area.
- Fire Watch shall report fires and accidents to the officer of the deck immediately and to the Firewatch Coordinator, if not done so by the hot work operator
- Remains in place for thirty minutes following work performed to clean work area and to ensure work site conditions remain safe.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must complete Fire Watch training.
- Must have the ability to carry out written or oral instructions.
- Must be able to read and exhibit understanding of Fire Watch training materials.
- Able to wear safety equipment provided (i.e., self-contained breathing apparatus)
- Must have worked within the maritime industry and be familiar with maritime terminology.
- Knowledge of hot work procedures helpful.
- Must be able to work effectively with others as firewatchers typically work as part of a field crew.
- Must be steady, reliable worker
