THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Under the supervision of the Assistant Fire Academy Training Services Administrator, the person in this position plans, develops, coordinates, teaches, and administers the resident and Academy-on-the-Road (AOTR) programs and assists in coordinating resources for program deliveries. The employee coordinates and oversees the teaching of fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials, officer development, and other emergency response courses in classroom, on the drill ground and during web-based educational settings.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Essential employee may work 12 hour shift.
  • Telework: Upon completion of orientation, you may be eligible to participate in the Fire Academy Part-Time Telework Program. You may be eligible for up to 3 days of telework depending on work assignments and activities to support at the Academy. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will need to report to the headquarters office in Lewistown.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • 400 hours of experience providing instruction as a Fire Academy Instructor (commonwealth title); or
  • One year of professional experience in developing and delivering fire and emergency service training programs, and a bachelor's degree in fire science, public safety, adult education, or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Necessary Special Requirements:
  • All positions require Fire Service Instructor 2 certification issued by a professional certification agency accredited in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association, the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress, or other professional certification agency accredited in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association.
  • Must have or obtain within six-months of employment a Class B CDL driver's license with a tank endorsement and no air brake restriction.
