Responsibilities Include:
- Actively participate in the identification, analysis, and mitigation of Fire Protection related hazards associated with work organization operations, research and maintenance using complete application and knowledge of Fire Protection engineering principles. Review work control documents to ensure appropriate incorporation of skilled Fire Protection theories, principles and concepts required for hazard mitigation controls.
- Perform Fire Safety Assessments by completing assigned Abbreviated Fire Assessments, Fire Safety Assessments and Fire Hazard evaluations. Independently determine and develop approaches to deficiencies with innovative and practical solutions. Develop Fire Protection equivalency requests for the work organization.
- Mentor junior staff in a broad base of Fire Protection skills and provide a peer review of documents. Fulfill delegated position responsibilities when asked by the ES&H manager or home organization.
- Perform assignments for the Fire Protection home organization and work organization as directed by the ES&H manager or Fire Protection Program Lead. Provide skilled input/direction to laboratory level Fire Protection related performance measures, reports, and assessments.
- Achieve and maintain professional qualifications in accordance with the INL Fire Protection Qualification, and professional organizations. Take actions to stay abreast of new developments in Fire Protection. Maintain relationships of trust with co-workers and customers.
- Review work organization’s broad base of design activities for new or modified systems, structures, and components to ensure Fire Protection related criteria is identified and included in design criteria documents, incorporated in designs, and substantially verified through required acceptance testing.
- Review and approve a broad base of Fire Protection system impairments/outages and establish required compensatory measures. Coordinate impairment closure issues with the INL Fire Marshal as required.
- Review and approve broad base hot work permits, including identification/verification of required hazard mitigation.
- Lead facility inspections including identification of broad base of Fire Protection requirement deficiencies: Develop and implement combustible loading programs.
Minimum Requirements:
PR0200: Bachelor in Engineering or BS in Fire Protection Engineering Technology and 2 years relevant experience or Masters of Engineering and 1 year relevant experience and meet minimum Qualifications in DOE-STD-1066-2016 for a Fire Protection Engineer.
PR0300: Bachelor in Engineering or BS in Fire Protection Engineering Technology and 5 years relevant experience or Masters of Engineering and 3 years relevant experience and meet minimum Qualifications in DOE-STD-1066-2016 for a Fire Protection Engineer.
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" / "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
