Job Summary

The Fine Arts/Education Manager is responsible for the overall administration and coordination of  program development, implementation and ongoing operations related to the Fine Arts/Education programming of the Kroc Center.  This position is designed to meet the spiritual, emotional, social and intellectual needs of the community. The manger is to create a vibrant variety of music/drama and/or art instruction leading to practical performances and educational programs, which will enhance mission integration and promote the Kroc Center of the Salvation Army.  This position is a key member of the program team and serves under the direction of the Program Director or equivalent.

The Fine Arts/Education Manager will be responsible for maintaining a culture of encouragement and to reach out to members of the community of all ages and walks of life.

 

 Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and give oversight to a Fine Arts and Education program
  • Recruit, train and supervise Fine Arts and Education department staff and volunteers
  • Develop and implement a standardized curriculum for Kroc Center Fine Arts/Education programs
  • Establish mutually beneficial partnerships with local universities and colleges
  • Manage and direct Kids Watch Programs
  • General Expectations

Specific Functions

  • Develop and give oversight to a Fine Arts and Education program
    • Develop and give oversight to a Fine Arts and Education program that will serve the spiritual, emotional, social and physical needs of the community in its day-to-day operations of education and Fine Arts programs and program spaces.
    • Oversee coordination and development of class schedules, curriculum and fee schedules.
    • Plan, implement and supervise Fine Arts showcases.
    • Maintain an accurate calendar of events and daily schedule of the education and Fine Arts programs and facilities usage by private and on site programs.
    • Work in tandem with the THQ Kroc Fine Arts liaison to ensure alignment of Territory missional objectives and standards.
  • Recruit, train and supervise Fine Arts and Education department staff and volunteers
    • Recruit, train and supervise all Fine Arts and Education department staff and volunteers including instructors, counselors and support. Maintain staff certifications and training documentation.
    • Update job knowledge to remain current with education and Fine Arts trends, techniques, equipment and best practices.
    • Assist in providing staff support to the Executive Council and other related committees as assigned.
    • Establish a process by which all programs and instructors will be assessed and develop plans for continual improvement.
    • Teach private music lesson and direct performance groups when appropriate.
  • Develop and implement a standardized curriculum for Kroc Center Fine Arts/Education programs
    • Establish and maintain performance ensembles, including but not limited to the three Music and Gospel Arts defined areas of Fine Arts. (i.e. brass, guitar, dance, choral, visual arts.)
    • Utilize and implement a standard assessment tool for program participants to measure required outcomes.
    • Responsible for designing, implementing, organizing, administering, and evaluating programs for the education and Fine Arts division, including securing outside instructors, rental of necessary equipment, and planning activities to best utilize the facility throughout all open hours. This may include partnerships with area schools, home school association and special needs groups. 
  • Establish mutually beneficial partnerships with local universities and colleges
    • One goal would be to utilize university students for student teaching assignments in Kroc Center Fine Arts/Education programs.
    • Establish relationships with local partner schools for the marketing of Kroc Center Fine Arts/Education programs.
    • Work closely with the Kroc Center Membership Manager to promote the education, music and Fine Arts programs and maintain good public relations on the web and in print.
  • Manage and Direct Kids Watch programs
    • Mentor children in developing their social and leaderships skills utilizing the 40 Developmental Assets model
    • Train staff as mentors for children in developing their social and leaderships skills utilizing the 40 Developmental Assets model
    • Facilitate discipleship programs for children utilizing asset rich discipleship and Bible study materials with various programs including but not limited to: Preach/Prayer/Praise, Character Building, Mission Literacy, etc.
    • Incorporate 40 Developmental Assets into all program curriculum
    • Ensure appropriate staff levels are maintained and are in compliance with The Salvation Army’s child protection policy, Safe From Harm
    • Maintain open communication with parents/guardians
    • Maintain a safe, healthy, and clean environment in Kids Watch area
    • Inspect and replace damaged or lost materials
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable licensing regulations
  • General Expectations
    • Develop systems that safeguard any and all facilities, supplies and equipment related to the Fine Arts programs
    • Maintain confidentiality
    • Create and maintain a support system that allows for timely and accurate record keeping, including areas of statistical reports related to the Fine Arts and Education and Kids Watch programs, accounting of expenditures and other reporting as required
    • Ensure the attractive appearance and cleanliness of the Fine Arts/Education and Kids Watch area.
    • Assist in the development of usage (rental) agreements for outside groups and private instructors who wish to rent the education, music and Fine Arts classrooms and spaces.
    • Responsible for monitoring and documenting the use of education and Fine Arts equipment and spaces.
    • Maintain a comprehensive inventory of all supplies and equipment
    • Assist with the annual budget preparation and maintenance of the education and Fine Arts and Kids Watch programs and facilities of the RJKCCC.
    • Assist in providing staff support to the Executive Council and other related committees as assigned.
    • Work in collaboration with the development department to write grants and recruit donors/community partners
    • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army policies and procedures, and support the (location) Kroc Center’s goal of helping each individual take the next step on their spiritual journey with God.
    • Meet regularly with the Program Director to coordinate operational issues associated with the Fine Arts programs and program space.
    • Work in a cooperative manner with other departments of the Kroc Center discussing any problems that maybe occurring within the facilities in which their programs operate.
    • Attend scheduled staff meetings and training when required.
    • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
    • Must be able to work weekdays, weekends and holidays as needed. Hours of operation may vary.
    • Perform other assignments/duties as directed.
    • Recruit, hire, train and supervise Fine Arts, education and Kids Watch staff
    • Create and maintain written Standard Operation Procedures for relevant programs in accordance with the Kroc standards review
    • Coordinate with other departments on room schedules and usage
    • Be aware of resources for developing the children’s ministry programming and participate in continuing education events and training opportunities
    • Keep current on all territorial policies, requirements and regulations regarding the care of children
    • Attend Territorial and Divisional events for Kroc children as assigned and transport staff to these events as needed.

      Special Considerations

  • Occasionally, staffing needs or strategic initiatives require that position descriptions are modified as needed.
  • The individual is familiar with the employee handbook and agrees to its terms and conditions.
  • The individual shall not fail to represent the mission or teachings of The Salvation Army.
  • The individual shall keep the RJKCC Senior Officer or appointed representative informed of all critical issues relating to his/her areas of responsibility.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music, Art or Education or relevant field, 3+ years of related experience required or equivalent combinations of education and experience. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience which, in the sole determination of The Salvation Army, provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform this role, will be considered.
  • 3+year’s management experience in Fine Arts/Education setting with progressive levels of responsibility in developing, planning, managing and supervising Fine Arts/Educating programs. Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate the ability to relate positively and energetically with staff, members, and community organizations.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills and demonstrate strong leadership abilities.
  • Successfully complete Safe From Harm training as establish by The Salvation Army
  • Have the ability to work with people of all ages in a capacity of leadership, counseling and education.
  • Must have the ability to maintain a non-judgmental attitude in working with customers, clients, members and staff.
  • Must be able to work autonomously, and be highly organized with the ability to focus on multiple priorities while meeting deadline.
  • Must work in an organized, detail oriented manner.
  • Thrive in a team oriented environment. Be a team player.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure.
  • Excellent phone and computer skills, Microsoft programs, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must meet certification by and participation in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Safety Program.
  • Ability to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership and field personnel.

    • The accrual rate is based upon years of service and approved hours worked.
