Financial Analyst/Grant AccountantJOB PURPOSE:
Responsible for maintaining, auditing, inspecting, and reporting complex financial information of the University and reports for the University’s externally funded grants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Handles all accounting activity for externally funded grants which includes reconciling accounts, drawdown requests, budget creation, creating reports and assisting the University’s grant writer with grant financials.
- Maintains and updates the financial information for various activities including summer conference programs, State of VA Governor’s School, sports camps and travel abroad programs.
- Responsible for Unclaimed Property due diligence, reporting and state filings.
- Prepares and submits monthly sales and use taxes for the University which includes dining facilities, catering, campus store, Claytor Nature Center and Historic Sandusky.
- Prepares the annual Schedule F for foreign university travel as well as the 990-EZ for Historic Sandusky.
- Records invoices to the general ledger for catering, conferences and other miscellaneous invoices.
- Enters monthly internal charge journals, assists with the annual audit.
- Compiles monthly purchasing card spreadsheet, reviews and audits purchasing logs, and conducts follow up as needed.
- Performs other duties as required.

QualificationsORAL OR WRITTEN REQUIREMENTS:
Excellent English-language oral skills for effective communication in telephone and inter-office contacts. Excellent English-language reading and writing skills for responding accurately to inquiries, drafting correspondence and reports. Excellent accounting and analytical skills necessary for monthly reconciliations, preparation of reports, and other assigned projects. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel for spreadsheets.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Much time sitting with little walking or standing. Working hours: 37.50 - 40 hours per week. Tasks such as working at a computer keyboard required extensive wrist and hand movements.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
Three or more years of general accounting experience preferred.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Associates Degree in Accounting or Finance.
