Job Title: Finance and Accounting Assistant
Reports To:Finance and Accounting Director
Position Status: Full-time
Position Summary: Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church a historic African American Church in Fayetteville, North Carolina, is seeking a skilled Finance and Accounting individual to perform a variety of accounting, bookkeeping and financial tasks. Assist with preparing annual church budget, tax, and audit reports, planning and forecasting, and the end of year individual financial reports. Participate in briefing church leadership and members on the overall financial status of the church and its associated entities.
Responsibilities:
- Review weekly contributions and daily cash transmittal sheets.
- Provide accounting and clerical support.
- Prepare and maintain accounting documents and records.
- Prepare bank deposits and monitor deposit account balance.
- Assist Bank Reconcilers and/or audit committee as needed during monthly bank reconciliation.
- Perform daily entry key data of financial transactions in database.
- Research, track and correct accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies.
- Receive and examine weekly transmittal sheets from the RAC for accuracy.
- Process checks for signature by designated signers and verification of invoices.
- Maintain filed invoices, purchase orders, and check request forms from church associated departments.
- Receive and process employee’s payroll documents from Human Resource Coordinator.
- Coordinate with Department Leaders on work hours to ensure employees receive pay due.
- Prepare weekly contributions report, and First Time Contributors list.
- Assist with preparation of financial analysis and budget preparation with Pastor.
- Prepare needed governmental reports.
- Coordinate purchases for all associated ministries under Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Inc.
- Additional duties will be assigned.
Requirements:
- At least one year of experience in Finance and Accounting.
- Associate degree: Bachelor degree preferred.
- Communications, possess behavior competencies in leadership, teamwork, flexibility, and initiative.
- Skills and knowledge of computerized accounting software.
- Familiarization and ability to operate standard office equipment, i.e., copier.
- Possess interpersonal skills when interacting with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments.
Working Conditions:
Office environment, Monday through Friday.
