Field Service Technician

Responsibilities
Use troubleshooting techniques to diagnose problem/ cause of failure of engine and electrical related system transfer switches, switchgear, components and parts
Be responsible for the installation and maintenance of engines and generators. Willing to learn about electrical related system transfer switches, and switchgear
Clean, repair, recondition, and maintain equipment and components
Test, measure, and adjust engine and machine systems and components
Interpret technical drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams to successfully complete tasks
Determine reusability of parts in accordance with published OEM reusability guidelines
Prepare, inspect and operate equipment prior to delivery
Keep up to date with developments in tooling, technologies and systems
Prepare inspection and appraisal reports, complete accurate service reports and other necessary reports and forms. Plan and schedule preventive maintenance on assigned equipment
Maintain a culture that prioritizes safety and quality
Work primarily outside, including in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions
Requirements
Technical or trade school education preferred with engines and/or generators
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
3+ years of electrical Power Generation experience
Has attended and passed the OEM Engine Specification and Design course or equivalent, relevant experience. Preference for training with Caterpillar or Waukesha Natural Gas engines, EPG courses, generator courses
Ability to read electrical schematics
Proficiency with electrical diagnostics
Complete all required paperwork including labor reporting and documentation of quality control and material movement
Preferred experience with troubleshooting generators
3+ years of experience with Caterpillar Natural Gas engines or similar
Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
Flexibility to be on call after hours, including weekends and holidays
Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
Ability to follow established procedures, practices and read instructions, drawings etc.
A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines
Great communication skills
Ability to use laptops and job-related software
Caterpillar EPG Level I experience strong plus
Strong problem solving skills and be detailed oriented with a high level of accuracy
Ability to prioritize and work independently
The employee must be able to endure prolonged forward and overhead arm positions while performing mechanical operations
The employee must be able to lift varied weight, up to 50 pounds
Must own basic tooling for position, open-end and boxed-end wrenches from 1/4 -2”, 3/8”, 1/2 and 3/4” ratchet and socket sets, impacts 3/8, 1/2), screw drivers sets, punches, hammers, sledges, and a quality volt/ohm meter, at a minimum
