QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Two years' experience in the telecommunication industry or related technical field is required. One year experience cabling various electronic components (e.g., modems, routers, TVs) required. One year of current, verifiable experience in fusion splicing, using fiber optic test gear, and performing optical continuity and conformance testing strongly preferred. Knowledge of the universal communications color codes as it relates to 12 and 24 tube count fiber optics and standard datacomm (copper). Class A or B CDL or ability to obtain within one year of employment strongly preferred. Proficient at working at heights and/or working off a ladder highly preferred. Proven excellent customer service skills related to installing digital TV, high-speed internet and voice services is required. Advanced computer literacy required, including demonstrated knowledge of current computer operating systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Delta-Montrose Electric Association/Elevate, reserves the right to change or modify the duties and essential functions of this position at any time.

In an efficient and professional manner, and in accordance with applicable labor agreements and the DMEA/Elevate Accident Prevention Manual:

  • Install aerial and underground fiber optic cable. Complete equipment installation and cabling as instructed by Broadband Field Operations Manager. Including but not limited to: complete fusion splicing of various types and sizes of fiber optic cable including: ADSS single mode and stranded single mode, OSP fiber management and installation. Performs splicing rearrangements on existing facilities in buried, underground, aerial and building work locations, preparation/construction of splice cases and pedestals. Review, interpret, and work with various maps, drawings and blueprints and testing documents.
  • Complete fiber optic installations and/or restoration for residential/business customers. Complete splicing and installation of fiber drop connections both outside and inside of premise. Install equipment including but not limited to: ONT / UPS; CAT5 / CAT6 data drops and residential telephony drops. Program subscriber premise equipment including, but not limited to: wireless networks, telephony and data networks and coordinate with Network Operations personnel to validate service activation(s).
  • Complete routine preventive inspections and/or maintenance on all vehicles and equipment.
  • Drives and operates bucket service truck within DMEA's Bucket Truck Certification requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Must have proven skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to specifications, reporting and quality requirements.

Must possess the knowledge to identify and understand the difference between CAT 3 and CAT 5; riser; fiber optic; PVC, riser rated and plenum cable; plenum and PVC environments.

Must possess knowledge of industry standard OSP tools such as OTDR, OPM, OLTS use and operation.

Must know the universal datacomm wiring color codes.

Must be able to work with others and work independently.

Understands the concept of providing quality services to our members/subscribers and agrees to maintain a continuing commitment to superior people-to-people service.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, and use of keyboard/computer; and occasional bending, kneeling, and reaching. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally. Requires frequent climbing and work at elevations (e.g. from ladders, poles, lift trucks, etc.) Requires ability to work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time. Requires finger dexterity, good vision and ability to differentiate and recognize the full color spectrum, good hearing, ability to speak, and the ability to perform close work. Office equipment used includes personal computers, related software, copy machines, fax machines, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Regular, predictable attendance is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in inclement weather conditions. Close to 100% of the work is performed outside of an office setting, either in an outdoor setting or in subscriber premises. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.

Must be willing to be on standby in relation to the workload. Must be willing to work evening, weekends, holiday, and extended hours as required by workload. Frequent daytime travel across the entire service territory for construction inspection and subscriber and landowner issues is required. Occasional travel, including overnight travel, by company vehicle and commercial means is required.
