GPD is currently seeking a Fiber OSP Design Specialistfor our Akron, Cleveland, or Indy office locations to support the Telecom practice. This person would act as a subject matter expert in our Fiber OSP design projects, thrive in a fast-paced, everchanging industry while sharing a passion for staying on top of best practices and emerging technology.
Job Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering (Technology).
- 2-6 years of experience in OSP design, fiber optic networks, or a related field.
- Proficiency in CAD, GIS, and other design software.
- Strong understanding of telecommunication standards, infrastructure, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience in Telecom design, working through creative solutions with the client, schematic design, design development, developing OSP Fiber documents and specifications, and supporting projects through completion.
- Passionate and knowledge of new and emerging telecommunications technologies is a plus.
- Certification in OSP design or a related field is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Thrives within a team environment working with the ability to work effectively in a team and interact with external parties.
- Possession of excellent communication and professional writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint.
- Some travel may be required.
- Valid Driver’s License is required.
Responsibilities will include:
- Develop and design detailed OSP system layouts, including route analysis, fiber optic cable placement, pole line and underground conduit systems, and other related infrastructure.
- Telecom design and documentation of OSP and Fiber design, documentation, specifications, and construction administration including field visits to projects.
- Perform field surveys and site visits to collect data and assess potential construction challenges.
- Create detailed drawings and maps using GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software.
- Work closely with municipal authorities and other utility services to obtain necessary permits and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external contractors to coordinate construction activities and ensure adherence to design specifications.
- Monitor project progress, providing updates and adjustments to designs as needed to address field changes or challenges.
- Analyze and select appropriate materials and technologies to optimize network performance and cost-efficiency.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes that may impact OSP design and construction.
- Partnering with senior designers for final drawings and calculations.
- Researching design solutions and industry best practices.
- Project documentation/administration.
