The Farm Manager directs harvesting operations through a team of functional managers and front-line supervisors and all agronomic activities to produce and harvest turfgrass sod to the highest standards in the industry. The position ensures increasing levels of customer and employee satisfaction while improving the efficiency of labor, materials, and machines.


Job Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership for employee relations through effective communications, coaching, training, and development.
  • Determines operations head count needs and ensures compliance with company policies.
  • Ensures compliance with company needs for capital investments and improvement projects.
  • Manages compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Supervise and maintain purity by variety.
  • Direct timely planting and replanting.
  • Monitor the Farm’s plans and implementation of fertilizer and chemical programs.
  • Maintain accurate records related to farming operations, including inventory, crop yields, and expenses.
  • Implement production protocols and quality control measures.
  • Evaluates new equipment, technologies, chemicals to continue the companies mission of “Farming Better today than Yesterday”
  • Responsible for coordination of harvesting and loading.
  • Provide a safe and positive work environment for all employees including the coordination of safety meetings.
  • Ensure that farm equipment is working properly and is well maintained.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages all sod, soil and seed employees of the location and is responsible for leadership of the employees within its department.

Work Environment

This job operates in exposure to direct sunlight and weather 90% of the time. This employee will operate equipment daily including but not limited to tractors, harvesters, forklifts, spraying and spreading equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This employee requires full range of motion of arms and legs and requires constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours can change at the discretion of the Regional Manager; though typical hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., evening and weekend hours will be necessary to accommodate operational needs.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Agriculture/Farm Operations experience.
  2. Managerial/Team Leadership experience.
  3. Secondary Education in Turf Management, Ag Business, or related experience preferred.
  4. Pesticide Applicator License.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • All potential new hires will be subjected to a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
  • To perform essential job duties, all potential new hires must be eligible to drive a company vehicle according to Super-Sod insurance guidelines. Requirements:

1) Must possess a valid driver’s license
2) No major safety and moving violations reported on MVR within the past (3) years. Major violations include:

  • Felony convictions
  • Automobile insurance canceled or not renewed by an insurance company due to excessive tickets, accidents, points, or fraud.
  • Convicted of alcohol or drug related offense while driving.
  • Convicted of three or more speeding violations or serious moving violations; moving violations include texting or cell phone violations.
  • Been involved in two or more chargeable accidents.
