Eartha's Farm & Market is an initative of the Clara White Mission, a long standing non-profit in Jacksonville, Fl. Clara White Mission is looking for an experienced Farm Manager to oversee agricultural operations and carry out objectives in farm related grants.

Job Summary

The Farm Manager at Eartha’s Farm & Market (EFAM) should be a reliable and experienced agricultural professional with good leadership and communication skills. The Farm Manager should be creative, innovative, and productive in their work.The Farm Manager should exhibit good independence and judgment in the workplace, producing high quality work in achieving farm objectives. Farm manager is expected to have a variety of responsibility on the farm and in the office, including but not limited to: farm tasks, seed sowing, bed preparation, green house care, crop management, printing, record keeping, planting, harvesting, washing, storing, crop planning, management of fam assistants and volunteers, record keeping, equipment upkeep and maintenance, fertilization and amendment schedule, irrigation repairs and maintenance, perennial care. Farm manager is expected to take part in farm tours, workshops, community engagement events, youth programming and outreach initiates.

The Farm Manager oversees agricultural operations at EFAM. The Farm Manager reports directly to the farm director. The Farm Manager should relay all necessary information to the farm director such as purchasing needs, infrastructure and maintenance issues, site or land concerns, employee concerns, and programmatic developments. The Farm Manager supervises the work of the farm assistants and volunteers to carry out EFAM objectives. Farm manager works collaboratively with community partners in carrying out program objectives.

Farm Manager Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meet with farm director on a weekly basis
  • Work collaboratively with the market manager
  • Work cooperatively with all EFAM and CWM staff
  • Work collaboratively with community partners, foster health partnerships to achieve goals of programs.
  • Supervise assistant farmers, overseeing day-to-day duties and work plan
  • Facilitate and oversee volunteer engagement on farm
  • Create, manage and execute crop plan- including cover crop and perennial plants
  • Communicate purchasing needs to farm director
  • Farm tasks: sowing, planting, weeding, pruning, harvesting, water, tractor & equipment use
  • Help write, report and manage grants and grant objectives
  • Prepare crop plan, incorporating crop rotation, cover cropping and pollinator forage
  • Manage a daily farm log of activities, volunteerism and engagement, harvest totals, soil amendment log, incident reports and pest spray logs.
  • Facilitate and oversee volunteer activities for farm
  • Assist with tours, classes, workshops, youth programming as requested
  • Train and onboard new farm staff in farming operations
  • Keep, update and maintenance farming SOPs.
  • Prepare monthly farm newsletter in coordination with other staff
  • Responsible for upkeep, maintenance of farm equipment, tools, high tunnel, caterpillar tunnel and tools and communicate all needs to farm director in a timely manner
  • Responsible for keeping grounds in a clean and safe condition for visitors
  • Alert farm direct or any safety or environmental concerns immediately.
  • Contribute content for grant writing, media and programming
  • Apply compost tea, soil amendments, pest sprayers, fertilizers

Education & Experience Required

  • Minimum High School Diploma
  • Training or education in farming and/or agriculture/horticulture required.
  • 5+ years’ farming experience. Organic, regenerative knowledge preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Prefered: OSHA Certification

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Physical ability: able to lift up to 20 lbs on a consistent basis. Must be able to work outside in all seasons. Must be able to perform strenuous tasks up to 75% of allocated work time.
  • Strategic Orientation: able to actively participate in and contribute to the planning process.
  • Leadership: Able to train, and oversee staff, volunteers and visitors at the farm.
  • Results Orientation: Able to set and achieve objectives on time and within budget to achieve the overall strategic plan for the project.
  • Team Orientation & Interpersonal: Is motivated to develop and maintain cooperative relationships within and external to the organization.
  • Communication: Able to communicate effectively.
  • Analytical Problem-Solving & Decision Making: able to research, identify viable options, draw sound conclusions, present findings and make thoughtful recommendations for short and long-term impacts.
  • Organization & Time Management: able to plan and organize work to achieve goals of the project.
  • Software/Technical Skills: typing proficient, ability to answer emails, phone calls and written inquiries. Must be able to use Microsoft and Google Drive and its features.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35,000.00 - $42,000.00 per year
