Specific Responsibilities:

This is a Family Support Worker position functioning as a team member in the Healthy Start - Healthy Beginning Nurses Program. Assists nurse home visitors to provide culturally sensitive medical interpretation during client encounters to improve pregnancy outcomes, child health and development and parental life course to a culturally diverse population of pregnant women or families with newborns in Palm Beach County. This is a bilingual position fluent both verbally and writing in English/Spanish and/or English/Q'anjob'al. Work is performed under the supervision of a Human Services Program Analyst-SES. This position requires independent judgment, initiative, applying general knowledge of business practices and skill in applying instructions to accomplish various job functions. Adherence to all established Florida Department of Health Safety Procedures and Practices while in the workplace and in the community.



This position is designated as a sensitive position and requires maintaining confidential information in accordance with the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) Palm Beach County Health Department (CHD) and Children's Services Council (CSC) Information Security Policy, Protocols and Procedures. Confidential data sets: has access to Health Management System (HMS)-Employee Activities Record (EARS), Florida Shots to view immunization records, and Healthy Beginnings Data System (HBDS) for the purpose of entering and reviewing client data.



Contacts Healthy Beginnings program participants via phone calls or home visits, explain the Healthy Beginnings Program and services available for pregnant women and women with newborns. Schedules appointments for nurse home visitors. Provides medical interpretation for Healthy Beginnings program participants and Registered Nurses during health education encounters. Assists the nurse -home visitor in the completion of all Healthy Start Pathway assessments. Supports the nurse home visitor in the use of the Partners for A Healthy Baby Curriculum material with program participants. Interprets documents and other materials from one language to another. Reads and rewrites materials in a specified language following established rules for word meanings; sentence structure, grammar, punctuation and mechanics. Re-establishes Healthy Beginnings services for families who were unable to locate or lost to contact.



Provides administrative and programmatic support as needed to all Maternal Child Health programs as directed by supervisor, including but not limited to, preparing correspondence to program participants, medical providers and assembling materials which are provided to program participants. Maintains the Family Support Worker Daily Activity log and reports all activities and progress of assigned work to the supervisor. Completes CSC and Healthy Start required trainings. Attends educational inservices, staff and team meetings.



Assists families, in person, web-conference or by phone to complete forms and applications for services that improve health outcomes. Searches out culturally and linguistically community resources to meet client identified needs and provides referral information to Registered Nurses and program participants.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Other job-related requirements for this position:

  • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Travel may be required for mandatory trainings and continued education.
  • This position works primarily in a community setting providing home visits and involves getting in and out of a vehicle, walking up and down stairs, and moving, lifting, pushing, and carrying objects up to 25 lbs. multiple times throughout the day.

Working hours: (A) Daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (B) Total hours in workweek 40 (C) Explain any variation in work (split shift, rotation, etc.)

  • May be required to work and provide home visits before and/or beyond the normal core business hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and on weekends due to the needs of program participants.
