GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Recruit and enroll families for Head Start/Early Head Start services. Also assist participating families in accessing community services.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Minimum of credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling or related field or obtain within eighteen months of hire (if hired after November 7, 2016)
• Child care training (Parts I & II – 40 hours) requirement pursuant to Chapter 65C-22, preferred
• 5 Hour Literacy Course as required by DCF, preferred
• Safe Sleep/Shaken Baby Syndrome training required by DCF to complete at Orientation/within 30 days of hire
• Must have current First-Aid/Pediatric CPR certification
• Must be willing to work flexible hours
• Be familiar with the overall make-up of the communities served
• Must have experience in records and/or case management
• Bilingual where appropriate
• Must pass physical and Department of Children and Families background screening requirements
• Must have access to dependable transportation with valid current liability insurance and a valid driver’s license

Skills:

• Very good oral and written communication skills
• Must have an understanding of social problems and diverse issues
• Desire to work with young children and their families
• Must be able to balance professionalism with sincere empathy; objective and supportive attitude in working with people
• Must be able to manage time and activities for the greatest efficiency
• Must be able to work effectively as a cooperative team member as well as independently
• Must be able to relate to target population, child care centers, community resource agencies and agency staff involved in support services
• Must have a non-judgmental attitude; genuine concern and interest in helping families improve their overall quality of life
• Maintain a professional demeanor at all times; ability to positively adapt to a changing work environment
• Must have good listening and interpersonal skills as well as good organizational skills
