Family Medicine Program Director

Job Overview:
The Program Director (PD) will be a practicing clinician who is provided support and dedicated time to carry out the educational, administrative, and leadership responsibilities required to successfully run the SMC GME Family Medicine Residency Program (FMRP). The PD has authority and accountability for the FMRP, including ensuring compliance with all applicable ACGME and SMC GME standards and policies. The PD serves as a role model to faculty and residents by demonstrating outstanding professionalism, high quality patient care, educational excellence, and a scholarly approach to work. The PD serves as resident advocate, advisor, and confidante.
Duties
1. Accountable for all educational and administrative aspects of the SMC GME Family Medicine Program (FMRP), including ensuring compliance with all applicable policies and standards
2. Design and conduct the FMRP in a fashion consistent with the needs of the community, the mission of improving public health by addressing needs and eliminating public health disparities
3. Administer and maintain a learning environment, in all participating sites, that is conducive to educating the residents in each of the ACGME competency domains and preparing residents for relevant ABMS or AOA board examinations
4. Provide a culture of professionalism that supports patient safety and personal responsibility, including serving as a primary point of contact for residents or faculty to report concerns related to burnout, impairment, or potential for violence in a colleague
5. Provide a learning and working environment in which residents have the opportunity to raise concerns, report mistreatment, and provide feedback in a confidential manner as appropriate, without fear of intimidation or retaliation
6. Appoint, supervise, evaluate, and remove (if necessary) program faculty at all participating sites
7. Appoint, supervise, evaluate, coach/remediate, and promote or remove (if appropriate) residents
8. Set clinical responsibilities (i.e., patient caps) for each resident based on that resident's PGY level, patient safety, resident education, severity and complexity of patient illness/condition, and available support services.
9. Assist DIO with compilation and submission of accurate information to GMEC, SMC GME, and ACGME as required and/or requested
10. Actively monitor and approves exceptions to resident workload to ensure an environment of safer patient care and a sense of resident well-being
11. Serve on the GMEC and appoint the CCC and PEC
12. Serve as the primary resource for residents for providing timely and accurate information regarding the impact of leaves of absence on the resident's progress in the program
13. Provide accurate and timely primary verification of the status of a resident's completion of their graduate medical education
14. All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:

  • Required graduate of an accredited medical school, completed at least a three year residency in a primary care specialty.
  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience managing major clinical activities in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or other medical facility.
  • Must have Family Medicine expertise and at least 3 years of documented educational and/or administrative experience
  • State license to practice medicine; including prescriptive privileges.
  • Current Missouri license to practice medicine.
  • Current DEA number.
  • Must be fully eligible to participate in federal, state, and private insurance plans.
  • Current BLS or ACLS Certificate required.
  • Must hold current certification for Family Medicine by ABMS or AOA.
