Family Law & Guardianship Staff Attorney (Hybrid)

Job Summary: A Non-Profit Law Firm is currently seeking a full-time Family Law & Guardianship Staff Attorney to join our dedicated team.
This full-time attorney position represents victims of crime (particularly survivors of domestic violence) and other clients in various civil cases, including protective orders, Family Law matters, and guardianship petitions for minors who are transitioning to adulthood.
This is a hybrid position which is based in our Arlington office.
Essential Functions:

• Maintains a full and diverse caseload of family and guardianship matters.
• Primary caseload in Arlington; may be responsible for matters in surrounding jurisdictions.
• Guardianship matters for any LSNV jurisdiction.
• Represents clients for both emergency and ongoing litigation, as appropriate.
• Interacts with clients in a clear, respectful, trauma-informed manner.
• Maintains general knowledge of Family Law and the law relating to guardianship and disability.
• Assists in developing and participating in legal outreach and community legal education.
• Focuses outreach on underrepresented communities, such as immigrant survivors of domestic violence.
• Participates in LSNV and external trainings, and provides training internally and externally, as appropriate.
• Participates with Arlington County's Project Peace, including taking on leadership roles.
• Maintains case files and necessary statistical information and participates in supervision consistent with LSNV policies.
• Supervises the work of paralegals and/or law students, as directed by management.
• Assists Managing Attorney in maintaining relationships with the local Bar and community.
• Supports organizational efforts to recruit, train, and mentor pro bono volunteers.
• Cooperates with other LSNV staff and leadership to foster a collaborative and team environment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Assists in developing and participating in legal outreach and community legal education projects and programs.
• Collaborates with tenants, community groups, organizations, landlords and local government.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Must be licensed with the Virginia State Bar, or have two years of practice in another state (LAC Rule 1A:9).
• Commitment to social justice, racial justice, and/or public interest work, strongly preferred.
• Interest in working with survivors of domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault as well as clients of diverse ethnicities and backgrounds, sexual orientations, genders, and individuals with disabilities.
• Experience in community engagement and advocacy, strongly preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong litigation experience, preferred; interest in gaining litigation experience, required.
• Legal aid experience, strongly preferred.
• Multi-lingual (verbal and written), preferred.
