The Family Coach position provides customized and intensive services to eligible (newly arrived refugees, asylees and other immigrants with humanitarian protection status) residents of all ages in Central Minnesota. This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with families, school districts, community resource organizations, and resettlement partners to successfully move families toward self-sufficiency through meaningful community connections and financial stabilization. This position will also establish customized employment services and partnerships with local businesses as needed.

 

FAMILY COACH RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend Check and Connect training, as requested by the state and utilize the service model in serving families enrolled in the Central MN Regional Network (CMRN).
  • Complete Family Wellbeing Inventory with families upon enrollment.
  • Utilize the family-centered mentorship model (Check and Connect) to build relationships and support families over an extended timeframe.
  • Work closely with CMRN partners and community liaisons to advocate for and secure needed resources and services that promote movement toward self-sufficiency.
  • Secure speakers and facilitate workshops for all ages and relevant to the needs of the families served.
  • Ensure services provided are culturally responsive utilizing best practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Services, Psychology or similar field or four years combined equivalent experience and/or training in human services or related field.
  • Desire to work with persons of diverse cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Fluent in Somali language

 

FAMILY COACH PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with youth engagement. Two or more years of experience providing vocational/employment counseling, case management, vocational rehabilitation, supported work settings, community mental health, or chemical dependency services.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a variety of people and personalities; understands and displays high level of internal and external customer service.
  • Competency in MS Office Suites, e-mail and Internet. Ability to effectively use database systems.
  • Familiar with grants, funding sources and quality programs and services for persons with barriers.
  • Ability to provide or arrange services such as career/personal counseling, family counseling, financial counseling, housing issues, medical, mental health, and chemical dependency treatment.
  • Self-motivated, show initiative, and able to work independently.
