Job Description

The physician is responsible for the delivery of quality medical care to medical patients of the Family Practice. The physician will render care with an emphasis on the treatment of the patient as a whole. The physician must adhere to the highest standards of medical ethics at all times. It is important that the physician understand the guidelines imposed by managed care organizations and our grant agencies, as well as the budgetary demands of the health center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

MEDICAL DUTIES:

  • Develops a plan of care for each patient, including a complete medical history, a physical examination, diagnoses of the cause of injuries and illness, appropriate treatment and/or referral.
  • Stresses the importance of preventative medicine and utilizes all available resources, such as laboratory and radiologic testing as aids in diagnosing and confirming or denying the presence of disease.
  • Practices family medicine and cares for all family members, including adults and pediatric patients.
  • Immunizes and vaccinates patients against communicable diseases.
  • Confers with consulting physicians, nurses, patients, and patients’ relatives concerning treatment and care.
  • Refers those cases which require specialist services but will maintain responsibility for assuring that those services are required.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:

  • Assist the Executive Director in planning, directing, and coordinating the delivery of health care services, and uses evaluative material to constantly improve the system in ways that are responsible to the felt needs of the patients and staff.
  • Maintains patient records with the assistance of the medical support staff.
  • Uphold health center protocols and policies regarding personal safety in the workplace.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND LISENSURE:

  • Graduation with a degree of Doctor of Medicine from an approved medical school, or possession of Standard Certificates as issued by the Education Council for Foreign Medical Graduates.
  • Possession of a license to practice medicine in the State of Maryland. District of Columbia (or both) as issued by the Board of Medicine.
  • Eligibility or Certification by the American Board of Family Practice is preferred.

  • Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support is preferred, and current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is Preferred

EXPERIENCE:

Preference is given to candidates who have strong community health/public health orientation, and/or have experience in patient care management above and beyond the medical school/residency environment..
