The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science ( UMCES), Chesapeake Biological Laboratory ( CBL), is accepting applications for a field technician for offshore fisheries field work in shelf waters offshore of Ocean City, Maryland. This position is a 1-year Faculty Research Assistant I position, supported by a US Wind contract to survey and evaluate commercial and recreational catches prior to offshore wind turbine construction. Duties include: travel and participation on monthly commercial fishing vessel and recreational charter vessel surveys staging from Ocean City, Maryland (March-November), ordering and maintenance of laboratory supplies and equipment associated with fishery surveys, assistance with refurbishing hydrophones deployed for telemetry and cetacean hydroacoustic surveys, diet and condition analysis of sampled black sea bass, participation in regular project meetings and progress report writing.

Applicants must have a B.S. degree and related fisheries or environmental science and relevant fieldwork experience. Salary dependent upon qualifications and experience. Anticipated start date is June, 2023. Applicants should be within daily commuting distance to CBL for team meetings; some teleworking can be accommodated.
Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants should have sea- and lab-working experience, be able to lift 40 lb fish traps, and have training in data and office software.
