The High School Music/Theater Arts Teacher will be responsible for teaching courses in Worship, Choir, Ensemble, and Musical Theater. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in music education, with expertise in vocal and instrumental instruction, as well as experience in directing musical theater productions. This individual will inspire and mentor students, fostering their artistic development and nurturing their love for music and theater.

Essential duties and responsibilities include teaching all levels of Music and Musical theater to High School students by performing the following duties:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive music curriculum that covers various musical styles, genres, and techniques.
- Teach music theory, history, sight-reading, and performance skills to students of diverse skill levels.
- Provide vocal and instrumental instruction, guiding students in developing their musical abilities.
- Direct and oversee musical theater productions, including auditions, rehearsals, and performances.
- Collaborate with other faculty members to integrate music and theater into interdisciplinary projects and programs.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and personal growth.
- Assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and communicate with parents and guardians about student performance and achievements.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with best practices in music education.
The teacher should have a strong understanding of subject-specific content and instructional strategies in addition to demonstrating well-developed organizational and communication skills. S/he should also have a working knowledge of recent research concerning learning and the brain and how to apply that knowledge in the classroom.
The Christian Academy of Knoxville (CAK) teacher must be a spiritually sensitive individual who understands the mission and philosophy of the school. The teacher must be a born-again Christian with spiritual maturity in academic and leadership abilities that will enable him/her to teach God's truth. The ability to communicate well with various types of people, handle confidential information appropriately, maintain a courteous, professional, and respectful attitude and integrity in all situations are prerequisites.
We offer an aggressive traditional college preparatory curriculum with traditional scheduling. Yet, the most important element in making CAK effective is the strong leadership and excellence of our teachers.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, Theater Arts, or related field.
- Teaching certification/license (preferred).
- Proven experience teaching music and/or theater at the High School level.
- Strong musical proficiency in vocal and instrumental performance.
- Experience directing musical theater productions, including staging, choreography, and music direction.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Instruct and engage students through demonstrations, discussions, using visual aids, and other effective teaching methods for student comprehension.
- Prepare course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
- Carefully monitor data regarding student progress and make necessary instructional adjustments to ensure student success.
- Administer assessments to evaluate student progress, record results, and develop reports to inform parents of progress.
- Maintain classroom standards, including keeping attendance records, ensuring discipline in the classroom, and assigning lessons.
- Communicate regularly with families as partners in the education of their children.
- Welcome opportunities and actively participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
- Perform related duties such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, and assisting students in selecting courses of study.
- Provide collaborative support to teachers, staff, and parents.
- Be proactive, with excellent critical thinking and communication skills.
