ASU’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College (MLFTC) and the Division of Education Leadership & Innovation invites applications to establish a pool for Faculty Associates in the Masters in Education - Mandarin Cohort Program for the 2023-2024 academic year. The successful candidates(s) will teach online Mandarin courses to students in China, prepare course materials in Chinese, evaluate student work, and assist students. The Masters in Education program welcomes applications from candidates who align with ASU's charter and committed to inclusion and student success. The successful candidate will also advance ASU’s Design Aspirations through teaching and service and effectively work with culturally, ethnically, and linguistically diverse populations.
Faculty Associate positions are one semester (7.5 or 15 weeks), non-benefits-eligible, and fixed-term appointments with no tenure implications, not to exceed .40 FTE. The number of courses is contingent upon needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Individuals hired as Faculty Associates may not hold multiple, non-benefits-eligible appointments at Arizona State University. Salary is based upon qualifications and assigned teaching load.
This recruitment is to establish a part-time hiring pool for temporary and semester appointments. Applications are considered for the current year only. Applicants who are not hired are encouraged to reapply for the next posting.
The position serves as a lead instructor and includes teaching during class times (for synchronous courses), grading, managing the course’s Canvas (learning management system) page, and establishing warm and supportive relationships with students through class, office hours, emails, and meetings, as needed.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Doctoral Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education or a closely related field
- Five or more years of teaching or related experience working with young children (Birth-age 8) and 1 year of teaching preservice teachers in early childhood (Birth-age 8)
- Should have expertise in any of the following areas of early childhood education: child development, early childhood education curriculum and instruction, pedagogical practices in language and literacy, mathematics, science, or arts
Desired Qualifications:
- Fluent in Chinese/ Mandarin (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing)
- Knowledge of Chinese early childhood educational contexts
- Experience working collaboratively at least once in a team environment
- Experience planning and/or implementing curriculum at least once (in any learning context)
- At least one semester of experience teaching at the university-level post-secondary or other adult education setting
- At least one example of learning (e.g., coursework, professional development, trainings) in early childhood educational contexts
- At least one year experience working in collaborative environments
- At least one semesters experience using course management systems such as Canvas or Blackboard and digital tools like Zoom
