Facilities Worker

Description

Perform manual cleaning, grounds work, and routine preventative maintenance for the college facilities, following established procedures and policies. Complete semi-skilled maintenance and repairs on the main campus as well as off-site campuses and assist Facilities Worker IV.Employees are expected to have prior knowledge and experience in order to carry out assignments with minimal supervision. The job involves physical effort in the operation of heavy vehicles and equipment such as snow plows, lawn care equipment and exposure to several disagreeable working conditions.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not limited to)

1. Perform a variety of maintenance projects such as building repairs and modifications and preventative maintenance to include plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry and welding. Participate in the repair and maintenance of boilers, chillers, and all related heating and cooling equipment.
2. Maintain and clean landscape and grounds including cutting grass. Shovel snow and spread salt on sidewalks and pavement. Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment to pick up and dispose of trash, make pickups and deliveries, and move/transport District property.
3. Clean classrooms and collect and dispose of trash and recyclables. Wash desktops, windows, walls, ceilings, woodwork, equipment, fixtures, blackboards, and other items. Dust and polish tables, desks, chairs, fixtures and other furnishings. Work hours may cover evenings and/or weekends. Clean and disinfect restrooms and restock soap, toilet paper, and towel dispensers.
4. Set up rooms for internal and external customers for a variety of activities and take down. Move, set up, and straighten furniture for activities and events.
5. Check, lock and unlock buildings and classrooms; set alarm and security system.
6. Sweep, mop, strip, wax and buff floor surfaces; vacuum and shampoo carpeted areas.
7. Order supplies for building cleaning and rest room soap, toilet paper, and towel dispensers.
8. Test fire alarms, panic buttons, risers and inspect fire extinguishers. Notify supervisor of areas needing repairs, servicing or unsafe conditions. Respond to unique service situations such as on demand setup tasks, student battery jump starts, or equipment repair.
9. Participate in and contribute to assignments and special projects of a similar nature and level.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance and aptitude for carpentry, plumbing, welding and masonry.
- Knowledge of and skill in all aspects of institutional cleaning and grounds maintenance.
- Proficiency in painting, staining, and finishing.
- Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance.
- Aptitude for carpentry, plumbing, welding, and masonry.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Familiarity with the operation of computerized environmental control equipment for buildings.
- Possession of a valid Wisconsin driver's license.
- Physical ability to perform extended manual tasks involving continuous walking, standing, bending, and working in difficult positions.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
1. High School diploma (or equivalent) required.
2. Three years of work experience in a facilities related field with increasing job responsibilities.
3. Associate degree courses in building maintenance or equipment repair or completion of Building Operator Certificate (BOC) preferred.

Supplemental Information

This position is a fulltime benefit eligible position.
Normal working hours are Monday - Friday, 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 pm. Must be available to work additional hours for events, maintenance, security, and emergency situations to meet the needs of the institution.
