Job Title: Facility Technician (Buildings & Grounds)
Classification: Salaried, Part-Time, estimated at 12 hours per week
Reports to: Director of Operations
Position Description:
The Facility technician is responsible for light maintenance of buildings & grounds at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Evanston, IL, including basic carpentry, snow removal, landscaping, event setup, and other support functions, with the objective of delivering a high-quality, consistent experience for parishioners, guests, partners, community members, and tenants. St. Luke’s is a lively, growing congregation and a popular venue for performances, outside group meetings, and events, with 350 church members and approximately 5,000 annual visitors. The properties were built between 1906 and 1920, and a large capital campaign and construction project to address several building needs will be taking place in the near future. The position reports to the Director of Operations of St. Luke’s and works closely with volunteers and staff. In addition, the facility technician may accept occasional calls for maintenance requests. This position requires a working knowledge of basic word processing, entry-level computer skills, high organization skills, and attention to detail.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Physical footprint:
- Manage, execute, and light carpentry to maintain buildings and grounds upkeep
- Create and manage ongoing facility projects and required documentation
- Serve at times (in the absence of the Director of Operations) as a contact for outside vendors and contractors related to building maintenance, and construction
- Troubleshooting issues with some electrical, HVAC/boilers, and miscellaneous requests as needed
- Create and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for buildings and grounds
Support functions:
- Provide operational coordination for internal and external events, setup of tables & chairs
- Fire safety inspections and reporting concerns to the Director of Operations
- Respond to maintenance online ticketing requests for repairs promptly and completing requests or work needed to resolve
- Knowledge of safety best practices
Desired Qualifications:
- Preferred experience in facilities, buildings & grounds, landscaping, and light carpentry
- Ability to interact with a wide range of stakeholders, including parishioners, vendors, event planners, and contractors
- Ability to be self-motivated, eager to deliver exceptional customer service
- Great communication ability to inform stakeholders of buildings & grounds projects
A few hours per week and ability to work weekends as needed onsite per month. Beyond this requirement, the Facility Technician can establish own hours/flexibility to ensure that campus operations, events, and vendor visits run smoothly. This position does not have a hybrid/remote capacity. Must be able to be onsite to meet the basic requirements of this position.
