Job description

Overview:
The Facilities Painting Technician reports to the Facilities Technician Supervisor and is responsible for the painting of the interior and exterior of Touro University Nevada campus. In addition, the Facilities Painting Technician is responsible for assisting the Facilities Technicians with performing maintenance work related to all facets of the university’s facilities.

Responsibilities:
1. Performs routine to moderately complex surface preparation, painting, and finishing tasks, applying a variety of methods, media, and techniques to both interior and exterior surfaces.
  • Prepare walls and other surfaces for painting by scraping, using sandpaper, removing old paint, fill holes and cracks with appropriate materials, etc.
  • Applies paints, sealers, and solvents to exterior and interior building surfaces such as, sheetrock, concrete, and wood.
  • Performs building exterior and interior caulking, finish repair, mud and tape, and texturing tasks.
  • Performs drywall repair, blending newly renovated wall surfaces with existing plaster.
  • Operates equipment such as airless spray equipment and motorized lifts.
  • Performs special refinishing tasks including wood surface preparation, staining, and sealing.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Surveys building painting project sites to estimate time and material quantities required; selects appropriate surface coatings.
2. Maintains and repairs the campus buildings.
3. Complete all assigned work orders within the specified time as assigned.
4. Monitor and promote workplace safety. Assures adherence to safety rules, regulations, procedures, and precautions while involved in work tasks.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education
:
  • High School Diploma required.
Experience:
  • 3 years painting experience in a commercial setting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Possession of a valid Nevada driver’s license.
  • Ability and clearance to drive company vehicles and golf carts.
  • Ability to work varied shifts.
  • Skill in selecting and applying paint and associated products.
  • Skill in applying coatings and/or caulking and completing repairs to exterior and interior surfaces.
  • Skill with drywall installation/repairs, mudding, tapping and texture.
  • Skill in wood surface preparation, staining, and/or sealing techniques.
  • Ability to select, mix, and apply surface coatings which successfully match and/or restore interior or exterior surfaces.
  • Ability to safely prepare and operate pressure cleaning machines, compressors and related tools.
  • Basic knowledge of the materials, methods, tools and equipment used in building and mechanical maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to estimate basic project time and material quantity requirements.
  • Ability to perform basic math skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Good customer service skills with a desire to exceed customer’s expectations.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to climb building ladders with a combined height of 35 ft., folding ladders to 10 ft., and be comfortable working at these heights.
  • Ability to safely lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work in severe weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, stoops, crouches, pushes, pulls, and reaches above shoulders in the performance of duties.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word.
