Position Summary: The Maintenance Technician performs corrective and preventive maintenance, repair of production and facility equipment, and will perform mechanical skills, including but not limited to: mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and HVAC. Must be knowledgeable in all ten (10) of our Maintenance Skill Elements (identified under “Qualifications/Skills” category below), and requires the expertise of a seasoned trades’ professional with competent, sound decision-making ability, many times working with minimal to no supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must be proficient on the use of a variety of hand and power tools including, but not limited to: drills, saws, brakes, presses, ironworker, welding equipment, cutting torch, plasma cutter and digital volt meters.
- Bend metallic conduit, install metallic conduit, and install flexible conduit.
- Interpret electrical code for wiring color code, conduit fill, ampacities, etc., as it relates to electrical systems and installations.
- Effectively work on single-phase and three-phase AC powered systems up to 480V; and DC power systems up to 180V.
- Troubleshoot and repair motors and motor control systems as they relate to all production and facility equipment, timely and effectively.
- Familiar with man-lifting equipment, such as scissor lifts, forklifts, man-lift baskets, and boom-style lifts; following all OSHA and Kulzer rules and regulations associated with operating such equipment.
- Learn all necessary QS procedures related to areas of responsibility, prior to release to work in those areas.
- Learn and perform production level skills for all production lines as described in the respective job descriptions, i.e. VK, Gypsum, Pouch, Ivory, etc.
- Effectively train subordinate-level maintenance and production employees to all aspects of their job to ensure department safety, quality and efficiency.
- Plan projects, schedule maintenance tasks, and meet with vendors as necessary.
- Follow, maintain and train others to Kulzer’s safety protocol and QS procedures related to assigned area of control.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area, and return all tools and supplies to their designated storage areas directly following their use; assets will be managed and inventoried to ensure protection.
- Perform work in a safe and competent manner with minimal supervision.
- Perform preventative, routine, and emergency maintenance and cleaning, as necessary.
- Manage area(s) to meet or surpass department key performance indicators that apply to their position.
- Complete appropriate paperwork and utilize software for entry and retrieval of operational data, as necessary.
- Ensure all quality system procedures and other company policies are followed within their area of control.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications / Skills:
- Must be knowledgeable in all 10 Maintenance Skill Elements which include: HVAC, steam operation, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, machinery repair, cutting/welding, tool-die repair, drafting, and programmable logic controls (PLCs).
- Must possess ability to create parts drawings in AutoCAD or other software platforms.
- Must be prompt and efficient on the job, and maintain a positive work ethic and related behaviors.
- Must be flexible in working hours, adjusting work schedule as needed to meet company needs.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Associates degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance preferred
- 5 years min. experience in a production or facility maintenance position
