OVERVIEW

 

The Facilities Engineer is responsible for safety and efficient operation of plant utilities systems via technical knowledge.  This individual coordinates with the other plant departments on facility and utility initiatives and issues. The Facilities Manager is accountable to improve the reliability of systems through ownership in defect handling, breakdown elimination and CAPEX management. This position leverages the process discipline thru implementation of standards and best practices applicable to the design, operation, and maintenance of the plant utilities. This individual provides technical leadership to ensure the quality of design and construction of mechanical design elements for facility improvements, as well as, ensures compliance with federal, provincial, and local laws along with compliance to site insurance requirements.  

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Engineering

  • Responsibility for the safe, efficient and cost-effective management of utilities (Steam, Hot Water, Natural Gas, Electricity, HVAC, Wastewater, Plant Building and Compressed Air).
  • Technical leader for all facility and utility initiatives (capital planning, project management and maintenance support), including participation on capital projects, as assigned.
  • Capital project development and execution with compliance with GMI capital policies, programs, and standards.
  • Coordination of internal and external engineering and construction resources required for the successful design, installation, and startup of utility and facility capital projects.
  • Technical leadership for the quality of design and construction of mechanical design elements for facility and utility capital improvements.
  • Responsible for implementation of standards and best practices programs applicable to the design, operation, and maintenance of the facility and utilities.
  • Understand ammonia refrigeration systems
  • Understand Fire Protection Systems
  • Documentation oversight for insurance requirements, ensuring the quality and completeness of all required drawings and record keeping for facilities and utilities (SOPs, inspections, technician training, etc.).
  • Development and leadership of energy management, water conservation, and facility / utility continuous improvement strategies (building envelope, grounds, roadways, etc.), including site master planning.
  • Participation in appropriate virtual networking activities (information sharing, best practices dialog, joint problem solving, communities of practice) with the Minneapolis FE group and other GMI facilities.
  • Analysis of equipment performance and improving component life.
  • Identifies and address safety risks related to maintenance activities (standard and non-standard) and prioritizing safety risks identified through Defect Handling.
  • Work with the Maintenance Manager to deliver spring plan Maintenance and Reliability costs for the Platform (Materials, Services, OT).
  • Emergency Response Planning and Implementation.
  • Develop facilities and utilities plant strategic plan.
  • Strategic time management and multitasking across all equipment and systems.
  • Support across the facility during non-conforming hours to support 24/7 operations.

Human and Food Safety:

  • Contribute to a safety culture that strives for zero injuries by proactively identifying and addressing physical/environmental/behavioral issues and implementing best practices for safety reliable control circuits
  • Ensure existing and new equipment and infrastructure meets applicable codes and GMI Global CIS Standards

 Foundational Systems

  • Maximo data integrity and adherence to Maximo standards.
  • Health of Defect Handling system participation (as assigned): Leads documentation of standards, and coaches the technicians through the identification, prioritization, and resolution of defects.
  • Breakdown Elimination participation (as assigned): Identification of triggers, tracking of BE’s and implementation of countermeasures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 years related experience minimum, 8-10 preferred. Experience directly related to utility and facility management

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated engineering skills and experience working with the generation, distribution, and application of the following Utilities:
    • Ammonia Refrigeration
    • Electrical Distribution
    • Utility and process water distribution
    • Steam and Hot Water Generation
    • HVAC
    • Compressed Air
    • Wastewater handling and treatment
    • Fire Protection Systems
  • Electronic and paper schematic reading and markup, AutoCAD experience preferred
  • City/Province permitting and code compliance
  • Good understanding of mechanical processes, both hands on and theory
  • Understanding of fire protection systems and hot work permitting.
  • Demonstrated skills in servant leadership, problem solving, coaching and training
  • Ability to achieves technical mastery of equipment and develops it in others
  • Effective networking and coordination with internal team and promotes positive team building
  • Develop and manage $4 million facilities budget, including annual purchasing orders, purchase requestions.
  • Contract negotiation with 3rd party vendors
  • Management of multiple 3rd party vendors
  • Management of safety and regulations of 3rd party vendors
  • Highly developed organizational skills
  • Self-accountability and motivation
  • Ability to lead and motivate personnel related to your team and beyond.
  • Project management including construction management
  • Basic knowledge of construction standards
  • Practical knowledge of Maximo and SAP
  • Understanding of maintenance and reliability performance metrics

Salary Range


The salary range for this position is $90100.00 - $135300.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
