Facilities Design and Construction Engineer

Mapleton, IL

The Mapleton Foundry is one of the largest in the United States and home to the largest core making machine in the world! Working at the foundry is hard work that demands focus and safety, quality, and commitment to helping our customers build a better world.

With over 800 employees at the foundry, we are looking for someone who can provide direction for infrastructure and technical support of foundry systems, machine tools, buildings, and supporting equipment for the facility.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for proposals, bidding / negotiations, contracts, and Construction management of various projects.
• Lead the review & acceptance efforts related to construction and infrastructure changes related to MGPP growth initiatives.
• Supervise a staff of Project Engineers responsible for creating specifications, quoting & installation of building additions, utilities, and other structural services.
• Provide technical assistance for other staff engineers and managers to coordinate the installation of electrical, mechanical, material handling systems and miscellaneous equipment and the rearrangement and modification of the facility.
• Provide planning direction regarding existing equipment and identifies potential risks with new equipment installations.
• Monitor essential replacement parts for new equipment and coordinates OEM support interactions.
• Coordinates activities of the staff to minimize interruptions of critical operations.
• Develop overall maintenance schedule priorities to new systems.
• Cooperate with Facility Engineering / Maintenance on the overall layout changes of office and facility.
• Coordinate with the management of staff and contracted engineers who do design work for capital and expensed projects related to infrastructure.

Degree Requirement

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience desired

Experience Requirement:

• Demonstrated experience in construction and structural design of manufacturing facilities.

Budgeting: Level Extensive Experience:

Knowledge of organization's budget process; ability to apply policies and practices for planning and administering a budget.

• Compares planned budgets vs. actual expenditures, identifies, reports, and explains variances.

• Develops and manages large capital / expense budgets associated with building / equipment installations.

• Evaluates past business decisions and associated budgetary considerations and impact.

Problem Solving: Level Extensive Experience:

Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

• Ensures capture of lessons to be learned from a problem-solving effort.

• Uses varying problem-solving approaches and techniques as appropriate.

• Analyzes and synthesizes information and devises alternative resolution strategies.

Manufacturing Equipment: Level Extensive Experience

Knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and logistics equipment used in manufacturing.

• Describes the roles and responsibilities of equipment vendors and own staff.

• Act as Subject Matter Expert to provide proper direction on facility infrastructure.

• Identifies uses and features of diverse types of manufacturing equipment

Plan Facilities Management: Level Extensive Experience

Knowledge of processes, methodologies and techniques used to manage plant facilities; ability to handle full spectrum of activities for managing and maintaining physical facilities and infrastructure.

• Directs the design, installation and maintenance procedures for new manufacturing equipment and building construction.

• Understands and adheres to environmental, safety and equipment policies.

• Deals effectively with customers and vendor support staff to resolve routine problems.

Supplier Management- MFG: Level Extensive Experience

Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with supplier of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice.

• Monitors contractor performance; works to resolve discrepancies between performance and agreements.

• Manages staff with responsibility to deadlines and budgets.

• Ensures the fulfillment of contracts and scope of work.
