**Job Description**

The **Facilities and Safety Manager** oversees the facilities group within Honeybees Exploration Systems (EX) business unit. The **Facilities and Safety Manager** will work closely with the Operations Manager to maintain and improve the EX Altadena facility and ensures that safety remains a priority throughout the organization.

****Responsibilities****

* Meets regularly with Operations Manager and other members of management team to discuss business needs and how Facilities team can best meet them. Proposes plans to address needs, and keeps management appropriately informed of decision making and progress of team.

* Helps oversee configuration and maintenance of fabrication, assembly, and test resources including machine shop, workbenches, cleanrooms, vacuum chambers, and freezers. Helps ensure areas are well organized, stocked with necessary tooling and other equipment, and that they experience minimal downtime.

* Oversees maintenance of office side and exterior of building, directing Facilities technicians to clean and restock areas or fix equipment, and working with external vendors for cleaning, waste disposal, landscaping, etc. Ensures Facility Issue Tickets are addressed quickly and effectively.

* Oversees preventive maintenance tasks, records, and customer owned equipment are maintained per AS9100 requirements.

* Plans and coordinates facility construction projects, ensuring they are fully compliant with applicable building codes and safety regulations and have undergone all necessary permitting.

* Helps manage purchases and budgets for the facility, ensuring office and engineering supplies are ordered when needed, that utilities and other facility-related bills get paid on time, and that money can be set aside for necessary or beneficial facility upkeep and improvements.

* Directly manages Facility technicians, meeting with them regularly to discuss career plans, review performance, provide guidance, and address concerns.

* Prioritizes Safety within the business by performing Safety Reviews, identifying and tracking all necessary safety training for staff, responding to Near Misses and other safety incidents, writing Emergency Response procedures, leading Emergency Response Team and Safety Committee, conducting evacuation drills, and ensuring first-aid and emergency supplies are available.

+ Must proactively seek out opportunities to improve Safety within the organization, performing independent research on applicable regulations and potential hazards. Serves as safety expert for facility and coordinates with experts at other EBI facilities.

* Oversees Security for facility by controlling badge and gate access, handling Visitor Requests, reviewing interior and exterior camera video, offboarding resigned/terminated staff, responding to alarms or other security issues, and being a first PoC for inspections (police, fire, OSHA, etc.).

****Required Experience, Skills, and Education****

* US Person (US Citizen or Permanent Resident).

* Personal or professional experience with building maintenance (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.) or large-scale construction is required, with knowledge of building code and permitting.

+ 5+ years of Facilities Management experience (ideally for an Engineering / R&D organization) is preferred, including verifying compliance with regulations, equipment maintenance, purchasing supplies, ensuring staff are appropriately trained and certified, and planning and execution of facility improvements and modifications.

+ Knowledge of commercial 240V and standard 120V 3 Phase systems work along with code requirements for commercial electrical work.

* Familiarity with OSHA, fire code, and other Safety regulations, and a demonstrated history of improving organizational Safety through appropriate planning, training of staff, addition of engineering controls, etc.

* Experience with hazardous materials, and knowledge of proper documentation, handling, disposal of them is desired. Experience with emergency-response situations and procedures is also desired.

* Experience with common lab and test equipment such as vacuum chambers, power supplies, calibrated sensors and tooling, etc., is desired. Experience with equipment for hardware fabrication (milling machines, lathes, saws, welders, etc.) is also beneficial.

* Experience operating a forklift and scissor lift preferred.

* Personnel Management experience, including tasking, career planning, performance review, and hiring of staff.

* Must be comfortable working in a regulated environment, subject to strict Quality Control and Safety standards. Experience in the Aerospace and Defense or medical industries preferred.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills across the organization at both the working and senior leadership levels. Must also be well organized and committed to documentation.

* Ability to lift and move more than 25 pounds; willingness to get hands dirty when required.

* Ability to live near the facility to respond to emergencies is highly desirable.
