Job Description
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
TheFabrication Technician (different levels based on experience) will operate equipment according to established procedures in a safe and quality manner. Dimensional measurements will be required during the operation of equipment to assure compliance to requirements. Adjustments to the equipment may be executed during the operation of equipment to meet established run rates and part accuracy. This involves performing First Piece Inspection and continuous Quality activities. Equipment will include Mills, Lathes, CNC’s and screw machines. The Fabrication Technician may also execute proper setup and programming techniques This involves downloading programs, validating or setting up tool locations, performing First Piece Inspection and meeting run rates Certain levels may mentor and assist with the training of CNC technicians.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES – some of these will be slightly altered based on level of knowledge and skill
- Implement and sustain S, Q, D, C activities
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently in times of needs/ requirement.
- Develop, sustain and improve CNC machine tool methods and procedures.
- Suggest/optimizes machine tool speeds and feeds to maintain high manufacturing productivity, holding the required tolerances (+/- .0002”) and obtaining maximizing tool life.
- Understand and comprehend CNC programs for 2 to 5-axis machines using SolidWorks, Mastercam and similar software.
- Understand and comprehend the best CNC method of manufacturing with regards to machine selection, fixtures and tooling
- Suggest tool selection in the development and implementation of fixtures for new product development.
- Proficient in the use and implementation of conventional fabrication equipment. Such as lathes, mills, grinders, broaches, hones, etc…
- Develop standard work, tool setup sheets, and standard operations for production jobs.
- Troubleshoot various problems (programming, improper tooling, dull tools, wrong location of machined feature, code errors, etc.) and develop corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
- Perform Quality Assurance activities while operating equipment (Optical systems, calipers, gages, indicators)
- Participate in Productive Maintenance activity
- Understand datums and install fixtures (Datums, Tombstone, Plates)
- Operation of multiple machining centers (milling and lathe)
- Monitoring and recording of part dimensions using Micro-Hite, slip and pin gauges.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Understand technical prints (GD&T)
- Understand knowledge of CNC machine “G-Code” and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability maintaining and changing tools.
- Experience with conventional manufacturing equipment.
- Ability determining offsets and adjusting accordingly.
- Ability in the operation of conventional manufacturing equipment.
- Interpret Work Orders and enter data into the Manufacturing database (ERP)
- Ability to perform first piece inspection using Height Gauge, Micrometer, and Caliper
- Ability and experience in CNC setup
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
Preferred:
- Experience in operation of C.N.C. Milling and/or turning machines.
- Experience in simultaneous and effective operation of multiple CNC machines
- Working knowledge of Fanuc Programming language including Macro B
- Knowledge of metal machining
- Vocational/Technical Degree
- Lean manufacturing experience
- Turn mill experience.
- 5S knowledge and experience
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must have excellent communication skills, reading, writing and listening. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints. Ability write and read spreadsheets.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
Attendance is an essential job requirement defined as having regular, consistent, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance including the ability to work regular hours and shifts, overtime before and after shifts and on weekends. Ability to work as part of a team, including all related departments/plants or independently as required to achieve internal and external customer satisfaction.

WORK AUTHORIZATION
This position requires compliance with ITAR requirement. Must be a “U.S. Person” (per ITAR 120.15) and are required to show proof substantiating this upon being hired.
