Exterior Lighting Senior Design Engineer II

An Exterior LightingDesign Engineer is responsible for taking styling concepts and merging them with the latest technologies to create feasible vehicle lighting system component designs. They engage heavily with other design disciplines in a collaborative process to find the best balance of marketability and create high quality drawings of the final design that satisfy technical requirements along with team targets. Additionally, they support vehicle verification and manufacturing maturation activities to ensure on time delivery to Honda customers.
A typical day for a Process/ Equipment Engineer will include:
- Provide technical expertise. Understand and ensure designs meet technical requirements.
- Provide project leadership by establishing schedule, deliverables, priorities, etc. for a team of designers.
- Create and review 3D layouts to communicate and confirm lighting assembly designs.
- Collaborate with styling teams to set feasible directions and fix final designs.
- Lead part design with suppliers, set design targets, and confirm final design drawings.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced designers.
- Support part and vehicle verification. Create and implement design countermeasures.
- Create and communicate design concepts to achieve marketability targets.
- Estimate and manage part cost including review of supplier quotes for lighting assemblies.

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (preferred Mechanical or Electrical Engineering) 4-year degree
- 8-10 years of closely related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required
Knowledge and Skills
- Skilled in Catia v5/v6 or other 3D CAD systems.
- Knowledge of fundamental engineering concepts and terminology, the units of measurement and their interrelationship common to all branches of engineering
- Effective communication skills (written, verbal and presentation)
- Ability to cultivate and manage relationships of varying levels in/out of the organization, including supplier.
- Ability to mentor, guide, and teach less experienced designers.
- Experience in project management and coordination of activities in a deadline- oriented engineering environment together with other members of similar experience and authority through collaboration is expected.
- Ability to acclimate to new environments, negotiate through unknowns and meet new people.
- Ability to manage time effectively and productively
- Proven problem-solving and decision-making skills backed by sounds analytical and quantitative reasoning
- Computer skills, such as MS Office, etc.
- Ability to prioritize / multi-task and work independently
- Acute attention to detail
- Strong organization skill
- Be highly self-motivated, and able to motivate others.
- Strong collaboration skill(s)
- Must be able to possess a high level of confidentiality.
Additional Position Information
- Communicate effectively and lead lamp development from concept to launch.
- Negotiate and set directions with other design groups with limited support.
- Develop feasible lighting assembly designs and issue high quality drawings on time.
- Collaborates internally and externally to build consensus to accomplish goals across functions.
- Formulates clear decision criteria, evaluates options, and can choose an effective option in a timely manner.
- Conducts meetings in an effective and efficient manner (preparation, coordination, facilitation, follow-up).
- Mostly office work environment, with OT required at times to meet schedule demands. Occasional domestic travel and limited international travel. Very limited off hour work required to verify lamp performance.
