Essential Job Duties
The Department of Agricultural & Resource Economics at North Carolina State University is seeking a non-tenure track Extension Assistant Professor to take a lead role in the Department's farm management extension outreach and classroom education programs. The two main responsibilities for this individual are to a) provide leadership in cooperative extension education in Farm Business Management across North Carolina, and b) develop expertise in farm and rural taxation issues and participate in delivering income tax schools in collaboration with the Office of Professional Development (OPD) in the Division of the McKimmon Center for Extension and Continuing Education. NCSU Income Tax Schools educate tax professionals and others about tax rules and regulations applicable to farmers and agriculture-related families and businesses. As such, the schools are a key educational channel for extension training on agricultural and rural taxation.
This position is a non-tenure track position with responsibilities in extension (70%) and teaching (30%) over a recurring 9-month term. The individual in this position will produce education programming through North Carolina Cooperative Extension (ces.ncsu.edu) based on their expertise in farm Management and tax issues. The individual will a) develop publications and educational program materials on critical topics in farm Management and agribusiness taxation directly affecting North Carolina farm families, rural landowners, and agribusinesses; b) engage various constituent groups and work with state and area cooperative extension specialists and agents to develop educational programs that meet clientele needs; c) disseminate information through county cooperative extension faculty and via presentations, websites, publications, conferences, producer meetings, and other appropriate channels; and d) collaborate with the NC State University Office of Professional Development to coordinate and conduct the NC State Tax Schools (including the provision of programmatic and subject matter expertise for NC State's Tax School tax education programs). This individual will represent NC State University on the National Farm Income Tax Extension Committee.
This individual will teach 2 courses per year in the NC State University undergraduate Agribusiness Management program and/or the Agricultural Institute. Teaching responsibilities will be assigned in accordance with the individual's expertise and are expected to be closely aligned with the cooperative extension program expectations (e.g. farm and agriBusiness Management, Agricultural Taxation). The individual will also contribute to undergraduate student advising. Although this position does not have a research appointment, Extension Assistant Professors are still expected to author or co-author peer reviewed publications in journals related to their areas of expertise.
