THE ORGANIZATION
The City of Big Bear Lake was incorporated as a
Charter City in 1980 and operates under the
Council-Manager form of government. All ive
Councilmembers are elected by-district for four-
year overlapping terms. The Mayor is chosen on an
annual basis amongst the ive Councilmembers.
The Council is responsible for selecting the City
Manager and that position oversees a full-time staff
of approximately 75 employees.
The City is located in Southern California and is a
popular tourist destination, nestled in the heart of
the San Bernardino National Forest at an elevation
of 6,752’. Visitors and residents enjoy the beautiful
alpine lake, mountain ski resorts and four seasons
of outdoor recreational opportunities. Big Bear
Lake is located approximately two hours from
major metropolitan cities, such as Los Angeles and
San Diego. The City’s year-round population is
approximately 5,100 residents, but the community
welcomes between 20,000 to 100,000 weekend
and holiday visitors depending upon the season
and special events schedule.

THE POSITION
The Executive Assistant will perform a variety of routine, con idential, and
complex of ice and administrative tasks in support of the City Manager’s
Of ice, including maintaining calendars, scheduling appointments,
preparing for meetings and coordinating travel arrangements. This
position will also be responsible for routinely preparing formal
correspondence, agendas, minutes, presentation materials, or other
documents such as proclamations and legislative letters on behalf of the
City Manager or City Council. Additionally, the incumbent will serve as the
liaison between the City and outside organizations and will provide
assistance coordinating the City Council’s participation at public events,
including gathering information and resources needed for public
appearances. This position will also maintain a wide variety of records,
and iles related to departmental operations and conduct periodic
retention and purging of iles in compliance with applicable guidelines.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate must be well versed in executive support principles
and practices as well as general of ice methods and techniques for records
preparation, processing and retention. The person must also have the
ability to prepare clear and concise correspondence with minimal direction
in addition to working skillfully with politics, procedures, and protocols
governed by local, State, and Federal laws/regulations. It is important that
this person is organized and able to prioritize and ef iciently complete
work assignments, and initiate routine job duties without formal direction.
Finally, the ideal candidate will negotiate effective solutions to complex
problems, use independent judgement, uphold con identiality and work
collaboratively with team members to support a positive customer service
environment.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: At least ive 5 years of increasingly responsible experience providing
administrative support at the executive management or public of icial level. The
ideal candidate would also have municipal government work experience.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of college
level courses in public administration is preferred. Possession of a related Associ-
ates or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university is desirable.

Leave Accruals: The City offers the option of a 4/10 or 9/80 alternative work schedule,
twelve 12 paid holidays per year and generous leave accruals including: Vacation,
Sick, Personal Leave.
Retirement: The City is a member of the San Bernardino County Employees’
Retirement Association SBCERA which is reciprocal with CalPERS. The City’s
retirement formula is 2% @ 55 with prior qualifying public service or effective January
1, 2013 the formula is 2.5% @ 67 for new participants.
