Summary
Responsible for overseeing and providing technical support, facility maintenance, set-up and break-down of ballroom, and customer service for the City of Garland’s Atrium, Granville Arts Center and the Plaza. Additional duties include assisting with the management, coordination, and execution of a variety of special events in coordination with other departments.
Target Hiring Range: $15.91 to $17.40, depending on qualifications
Schedule: No set schedule. Flexible availability required and depends on scheduled events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee implementation of technical needs for performances and events. Provide expertise how to properly operate all technical equipment used during events.
- Ensure all technical equipment is operational and provide on-sight troubleshooting for the Cultural Arts Division.
- Manage and maintain the inventory of theater equipment, janitorial supplies, other supplies as need.
- Perform facility maintenance and equipment checks, looking for safety hazards on regular basis.
- Maintain safe operation of equipment by providing routine weekly maintenance checklist and non-routine preventive maintenance of the facility.
- Provide customer service for events, assist clientele on last-minutes request, and act as a point of contact.
- Supervise, work with temporary employees on set-up, tear down of ballroom according to designed floorplans.
- Supervise caterers and other vendors while using the facility on kitchen equipment, portable bars, etc.
- Keep the facility clean and well maintained.
- Support special City events and open to accept other duties as need in coordination with other City departments.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
- 2 years related experience
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- Advanced study or training past the high school equivalency in Technical Theater, Event Planning, Business Administration and/or Management or related field
- 4-6 years technical lightning, audio visuals, sound and staging experience, grounds and facility maintenance experience
- Class C Texas Driver’s License, or ability to attain in the first 6-months
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of all possible room and technology configurations for events’ audio visuals
- Extensive knowledge of the methods, and equipment used in facility maintenance, minor repairs, usage of chemicals and cleaning solutions
- Basic knowledge of the methods, principles, materials, tools and standard practices of equipment technology
- Ability to move chairs, lift/move commercial grade tables and large heavy technical equipment including Genie Lift, Staging Sections, Portable Bar, Commercial Kitchen Equipment, Etc.
- Skills in performing routine maintenance, preventative maintenance on equipment and/or facility
- Skill communicating effectively verbally and in writing
- Skills in providing great customer service, understanding works’ cultures, and being a team player
- Ability to read and understand lighting, sound and staging specifications
- Ability to diagnose and repair basic grounds keeping equipment and associated with technology systems
- Ability to utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
- Someone with no fear of heights (acrophobia) to perform high ceiling maintenance tasks like replacing light bulbs, install/troubleshoot lightings and sounding systems
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid Class C Texas Driver's License
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
The incumbent works with frequent exposure to high noise volume environmental conditions and requiring basic hand-on facility maintenance as well as friendly customer service oriented individual. Majority of work performed inside of facility. May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold, rain, humidity, wetness, insects, noxious odors, fumes, and physical stress from exertion and lifting. Exposed to physical exertion such as bending, lifting, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
