Job Description

  • The Rotating Equipment Engineer is responsible for performing engineering, designing, supporting procurement, reviewing engineering documents ad following up with fabrication, support commissioning and maintenance of rotating equipment.
  • In deep understanding of plant operations, supply and product logistics, business drivers, cost drivers, and feedstock sensitivities.
  • Must also demonstrate the ability to work with multidisciplinary teams producing reports, studies and presentations related to rotating equipment selection that are pivotal in shaping management’s decisions.
  • Meet or exceed customer expectations in a timely manner within the budget limits.
  • Keep abreast of Industry Codes and Guidelines related to rotating equipment.


Roles and Responsabilities

  • Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge in sizing and selecting rotating and packaged equipment such as all type of pumps, compressors, instrument air packages, nitrogen packages, chemical injection packages, diesel generators, etc. used in plant and field facilities.
  • Excel in material selection and mechanical integrity requirements for such equipment considering fluids characteristics and environmental conditions.
  • Create datasheets, technical specification, technical requisitions, technical bid evaluations for rotating and packaged equipment.
  • Review, comment and approve or reject engineering documents from vendors.
  • Follow up on technical scope of work of vendors.
  • Support process engineers in selecting type of rotating equipment.
  • Perform calculations on power requirements for motors, engines and compressors.
  • Create specification for compressors, pumps, power generators, instrument air and nitrogen packages, etc.
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software to perform engineering calculations.
  • Have a complete understanding either for pumps or compressor.
  • Ensures that all assigned activities and operations comply with applicable codes, regulations and laws.
  • Provides support to fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and client specifications.
  • Provide construction & commissioning support during project execution
  • Coordinates activities with other project disciplines involved in fabrication, operation, application, and installation or repair of various materials, products or systems.
  • Review “as-built” drawings and re-run or check calculations, as required, to ensure conformity.
  • Take an active role in developing internal Standards and Specifications.
  • Continuously improve rotating equipment engineering designs of Product Line projects to decrease equipment and construction costs and improve equipment reliability and life.
  • Perform troubleshooting and support in major repair of oil and gas rotating equipment, such as air compressors, pumps and power generators.
  • Provide input to the “Lessons learned” process and utilize findings from the process to update tools and processes.
  • Capable to provide technical training sessions covering Codes and Industry Standards requirements to be presented to other engineers.
  • Participate in continuing education to maintain professional status as required by licensing authorities and to enhance professional skills.
  • Advise and assist project and discipline engineers with the interpretation and clarification of applicable industry Codes and Client Specification requirements.
  • Check the work by others as required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 10 years relevant experience designing and documenting gas compression plants and O&G production facilities since concept to maintenance.
  • In depth knowledge of industry international codes and standards such as ASME, API, NFPA, NACE, PIP, ANSI, ISO.
  • Understanding of Process Hazar Analysis like HAZOPs and other safety studies.
  • Develop of FAT and SAT procedures as well as conduct it.
  • Extensive knowledge in utilization of software to predict behavior and pre-select rotating equipment, such us compressors or pumps.
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communications.
  • Professional Engineer license is a plus.

The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on skills, experience, qualifications, and other business and organizational needs. Please note that the compensation and benefits listed below are only applicable to successful candidates who are hired onto local United States payroll.

At SLB, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at/near the top of the range. The anticipated salary range for this position is $130K - $165K annualy.
