Compensation:$43,763-$54,694Compensation Type:SalaryEmployment Type:Fixed Term (Fixed Term)Scheduled Weekly Hours:40Grade:E01Department:Academic AdministrationPosition SummaryUnder general supervision, instructs ESL classes and performs specialized duties in support of the Adult Education English as a Second Language (ESL) program including, community relations, marketing, record keeping and data management; participates in activities related to the IELCE grant. Must be committed to serving a diverse college community. Actively participates in and contributes to continuous quality improvement.
This position is a Fixed-Term position therefore continous employment is contingent upon further position funding and/or need.Duties & Responsibilities
  • Instructs ESL Program classes, including general classes with reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary-building, and grammar, career pathways classes, and elective classes;

  • Assists with student orientations;

  • Assists with curriculum development; creates lesson plans; assesses student work;

  • Participates in departmental planning, grant writing and performance reporting activities;

  • Consults with community agencies in support of student success; meets with agency representatives;

  • Administers tests and practice tests;

  • Works with others to facilitate classes and workshops for students and community members;

  • Performs related duties as assigned;

  • Contacts drop-out and stop-out students;

  • Oversees individual student intake process;

  • Assist in general data collection, data management, and reporting processes;

  • Acts as the community liaison and prepares marketing and PR related materials;

  • Advises and assists ELL students in setting goals, preparing learning plans, and enrolling in ESL classes.

  • Knowledge of related subject matter.

  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures.

  • Skill in the instruction of adult learners.

  • Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.

  • Skill in communication with students, colleagues and community partners.

  • Skill in coordinating volunteers.

  • Skill in entering data to software programs and in generating reports.

  • Skill in records management.

  • Skill in decision-making, problem solving, working independently and with initiative.

  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.

  • Skill in oral and written communication.

  • Skill in working in conjunction with diverse groups within the department, college, community and state.

  • Skill in public speaking.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors in a related field AND a TESL/TEFL Certification

  • Two (2) years of teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in TESOL, Education or Applied Linguistics

  • Coursework in basic skills instruction, learning disabilities of at-risk students, standards-based curriculum design, and assessment theory;

  • Spanish language fluency: speaking, listening, reading, writing.

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting and standing. The employee occasionally stoops and lifts light objects.
