school diploma or equivalent required. Vocational school training or apprenticeship preferred. Experience operating construction equipment required; additional on-the-job training offered.
Duties and Responsibilities: Operates construction, excavation, hauling, and maintenance equipment including backhoes, front-end loaders, bulldozers, excavators, or grade tractors. Prepares construction sites for building, demolition, or excavation. Uses excavating machinery to dig holes and trenches.
Transports tools and other construction equipment to and from construction sites. Uses equipment to prepare job sites for parking lots, sidewalks, roadways, and utilities. Operates machinery to build bridges and roads.
Inspects equipment prior to beginning shift. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Knowledge and Skills: Extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation and capabilities.
Ability to read building plans related to structural concrete and land grades. Excellent mechanical skills. Ability to follow instructions.
Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery. Ability to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary. Must be able to operate machinery in extreme weather conditions and terrains.
