JOB SUMMARY The position of Equipment Operator is a skilled position involving grounds maintenance, and building maintenance. Also responsible for maintenance and improvements to the roadway and drainage systems of the City. This position reports to the Crew Leader of the Streets & Drainage division.

This position may require evening and weekend hours. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs skilled labor tasks including, but not limited to, mowing, weed eating, applying pesticides, grading, hauling, backfilling, excavating, pruning, and other tasks which may be required. Repairs roadway potholes and drainage problems for the Public Works Department.

Performs other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Educations and Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Three (3) years of experience in the storm water drainage systems, including experience in the maintenance of road sides and road ways.

Special Qualifications: Position requires a valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air break and tanker endorsement, and acceptable driving record at the time of hire. Applicants who do not currently possess a Class B CDL, must acquire a learner's permit within 3 months of hire and obtain a Class B CDL license within 6 months, as a condition of continued employment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to operate heavy equipment.

Ability to operate equipment including backhoes, tractors, mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, dump truck, grade-all, et cetera. Ability to use light machinery, power tools and hand tools. Ability to traverse all types of terrain.

Ability to read construction drawings. Applicant must also have the ability to read and interpret utility construction drawings for the Utility Department. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Very heavy work requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Additional physical abilities required: Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium. Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.

Body agility is emphasized. Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand. Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.

Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound. Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.

Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles. Manual dexterity such as: picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling. Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.

Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward. Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely. Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time. Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Visual Acuity: Have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment. Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in an environment with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to my co-workers or others.
